2013 Broncos Season, Week 16

A win, a record, and a step closer to being the top seed!

Week 16: Broncos 37, Texans 13
Season Record: 12-3 (7-1 Home)
Key Play: In the early fourth quarter, with the Broncos nursing a 16-13 lead, Matt Schaub fired a pass downfield that was intercepted by Broncos' safety Mike Adams. The Broncos took that turnover and scored 21 straight points to salt away a 24 point victory.

Recap: It was a day of highs and lows on Sunday. Peyton Manning set the single season touchdown record with four TD tosses, giving him 51 for the year. The Broncos won and took another step toward homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. But Von Miller, the star linebacker for the Broncos, was injured and people suspect that he tore his ACL, ending his season. It has been a season of tough injuries for the Broncos, particularly on defense, so this was more bad news heading into the playoffs. But, still, the Broncos offense is back on track and the team is on pace to finish as the AFC's best team in the regular season. But for all the records and all the wins, all that matters now is how the team performs in the post season. Anything short of a Super Bowl title will be a disappointment.

Game Balls:
* Peyton Manning. When you through for 400 yards, four touchdowns, and set a new record, you get a game ball. Manning's great season continues.

* Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas. The Broncos are without Wes Welker for the balance of the regular season, but Decker and Thomas kept things going. Both went over 100 yards receiving and grabbed scores. Both have been great this season and portend a bright future for the Broncos.

* Mike Adams. In a game where the Broncos were stalled, Adams provided the biggest momentum push with his interception. It's been a tough season for Adams, who lost his starting spot in the pre-season, but has stepped up when he's been needed most.

Areas of Concern:
* Special teams. More big returns, more bad plays, and another muffed punt. The Broncos' special teams continues to be an issue.

* Injuries and depth. If Miller is, indeed, out for the season, that is the loss of a lot of key front seven players. The Broncos have a good offense, but the defense will have to weather a lot of the team is to win a title.
