2017's Most Anticipated Releases
We're about a month into 2017 so it seems like a good time to look at some of the movies I'm anticipating in 2017. As always, hope springs eternal. We have plenty of exciting concept films coming in the next 11 months. Let's hope they live up to our hopes.
Lego Batman — February 10
About: I love Batman, who is by far my favorite hero. I also was a fan of the "Lego Movie," particularly the character of Batman. You're telling me now that he gets his own movie. I'm sold.
Logan — March 3
About: Wolverine is a close second in terms of my favorite superheroes. Sadly, the two stand alone Wolverine films have been disappointments. But, as I said, Hope Springs Eternal. The first trailer for "Logan" made the hair on my arms stand up. I hope the film actually delivers.
Beauty and the Beast — March 17
About: Disney has done well with live-action films, and this one looks like it could potentially their best yet. The trailer gave me chills. Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, what's not to love?
The Fate of the Furious — April 14
About: When Paul Walker died, it seems the "Fast and Furious" franchise would go with him. It's been two years since "Furious Seven" brought his story to a close. But the franchise has continued, and this time it looks like Dom (Vin Diesel) is the villain. This brings an interesting twist to this insanely profitable franchise.
Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 — May 5
About: "Guardians of the Galaxy" is the best of the Marvel films. And yet, the trailer for this looks like it improves on the original. Two words — Baby Groot. I'm all in.
Alien Covenant — May 19
About: I didn't like "Prometheus," but this looks different. The original "Alien" is a seminal classic. If this comes close to that magic, we'll have an incredible May to remember.
Wonder Woman — June 2
About: It's about time this iconic character got her own movie. This is one of the most anticipated films of 2017, and for good reason. Gal Gadot was great in "Batman v Superman," and now we get her origin story. Let's hope it's as good as the trailer.
Dunkirk — July 21
About: Christopher Nolan is, quite simply, the best director working today. A mediocre Nolan film is 1,000 times better than most other movies. This film, which chronicles an important story from WWII, looks fantastic. This is the kind of important story we need to be telling right now, and WWII tales never grow old.
Justice League — November 17
About: It's fair to say the DC Universe has under whelmed. But there is something about the prospect of this film that has me incredibly excited. I think there's potential here.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi — December 15
About: It's been 13 months since we saw the fleeting glimpse of Luke Skywalker. And we've wondered ever since what he would say and do. Our answer is only 11 short months away...
