NFL Picks, Divisional Round
Lindsay and I picked the same way for all four games in the Wild Card Round, so we're still tied with seven games left to go. On to the Divisional Round!
Seattle Seahawks (10-5-1) at Atlanta Falcons (11-5)
About: The Seahawks won convincingly at home last week, beating Detroit 26-6. They were supposed to win and did. Earlier this season, the Seahawks beat the Falcons, too. But that game was in Seattle and turned on a controversial non-call. Since then, Seattle has been up-and-down and lost Earl Thomas. While it didn't matter against the Lions, it probably will against the better offense of the Atlanta Falcons. Matt Ryan has just one career playoff win. It was at home, against the Seahawks. I think he gets his second on Saturday.
The Pick: Atlanta 27, Seattle 20
Lindsay: Falcons
Houston Texans (9-7) at New England Patriots (14-2)
About: This is the most lopsided game of the weekend, and sadly it's the Prime Time game on Saturday night. The Texans won 27-14 at home against the Raiders last Saturday, but that was somewhat expected. The Texans also lost to the Patriots earlier this season. That was expected. And the Texans will lose on Saturday night, you can book it. It will only be close if the Patriots rest Tom Brady an extra week.
The Pick: Patriots 34, Texans 13
Lindsay: Patriots
Pittsburgh Steelers (11-5) at Kansas City Chiefs (12-4)
About: The Steelers beat the crap out of the Dolphins in round one. It was 30-12 with Le'Veon Bell running for 167 yards and two touchdowns and Antonio Brown going for 124 and two touchdowns. The game wasn't even as close at the score. The Steelers also bluggeoned the Chiefs earlier in the regular season, though to be fair that was in Pittsburgh, where Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers are better. Here's the thing, the Chiefs are a nice team, but a flawed team. They won some big games, but they also lost some curious games at home during the season. Both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans won at Arrowhead, and let's not forget the Chargers ran out a big lead there before blowing it, as is their pattern. And I think the Steelers are a bad match up for them, and will win to move on to New England for the AFC Championship.
The Pick: Steelers 34, Chiefs 27
Lindsay: Chiefs
Green Bay Packers (10-6) at Dallas Cowboys (13-3)
About: The Packers did what the Cowboys couldn't this season, beat the Giants. And they did it in convincing fashion. The Packers won 38-13 to advance. Now they face the top-seeded Cowboys, who were pretty incredible all year. The Cowboys also beat the Packers earlier this season. But this is a different Packers team, one that has won seven straight including the playoffs. And you know what, I believe in Aaron Rodgers and company. I think they get it done again, in what could be the best game of the weekend.
The Pick: Packers 27, Cowboys 24
Lindsay: Packers
Last Week: 4-0
Lindsay: 4-0
Season: 167-93
Lindsay: 167-93
