2018 Broncos Season — Schedule Release
We're moving closer to the start of the 2018 season, and that is highlighted by the schedule release. The Draft is next Thursday, and I'll have some reactions to that next weekend. But for now it's all about who the Broncos are going to play. Here's a few schedule highlights.
* Starting Strong. The Broncos open with the Seahawks and Raiders at home, then head to Baltimore to tussle with the Ravens, and return home to face the Chiefs on Monday Night Football. That's a brutal stretch, and one that could be make or break for the Broncos, who will have used three of their eight home games in the season's first four weeks.
*The stretch to the bye. The good news is the Broncos have a Week 10 bye, much more mid-season than last year. The bad news is that after that brutal opening stretch, the team plays three of five on the road heading into the bye. It starts with a game at the Jets, which should be winnable, but the Broncos return home to face the Rams, which will be a tough and emotional game. Then they hit Arizona on Thursday Night and the Chiefs on the road in back-to-back weeks before returning home to battle the Houston Texans before the bye. That stretch will likely determine the Broncos' fate in the season in terms of playoffs.
* The Chargers. While the Chiefs have won the last two AFC West titles, and are still a formidable team, I'm thinking 2018 could be the year for the Chargers. The Broncos play the Chargers twice in the back half of the season, a time when they've typically started to put it together. The first comes November 18 right out of the bye, and the second comes at home on the final game of the regular season.
* Risers in 2018. The Broncos have a stretch facing the Bengals, 49ers and Browns in consecutive weeks to start December. In the past that would have been a favorable stretch to close the season. But I think the 49ers and Browns are going to be feisty in 2018, and I think that could be a tough stretch for the Broncos to handle near the end.
* Christmas in Oakland. The Broncos play on Christmas Eve in Oakland, in a game that could be a lot of fun.
Overall it's a solid schedule and I'm excited to see how it plays out.
