Upcoming Releases, July 2018

We've reached July, basically smack dab in the middle of summer. And, as you'd expect, the month will be full of a number of big tent pole blockbusters.

Wednesday, July 4:
The First Purge
--This is the fourth installment of "The Purge" franchise, but won't be the end, likely. (There is also a weekly TV show coming.) This one takes things back to the beginning to see how The Purge began. These movies have always been part horror film, part social experiment and part commentary on our society. Expect that to continue here.

Friday, July 6:
Ant-Man and The Wasp
--I wasn't a huge fan of "Ant-Man," either the character or the film. But here he gets another stand alone film, this time with and expanded role for Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp. It looks like some summer fun. I remain hopeful.

Friday, July 13:
Skyscrapper
--This one stars The Rock as a former FBI Agent turned security consultant who brings his family to the tallest building in the world when trouble breaks out. I'm all in. This will be deep as a puddle, but hopefully a lot of fun.

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation-- This third installment in the cartoon franchise sees our loveable monsters taking a cruise. It will have been about a month since "The Incredibles 2," so this will fill the family programming void.

Friday, July 20:
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
--The sequel that I'm not sure anyone was clammoring for is here. I'm sure we can expect more revelry, more guest stars, and more singing. It's a nice, light way to spend the summer.

The Equalizer 2-- This follow up to the action film from a couple years ago looks a bit more intense, as Denzel Washington is back. The first one was better than I expected, and this has the chance to become a "Taken"-like franchise.

Unfriended: Dark Web--Another sequel (apparently this is the week for it), this one tackling the dangers of the Internet.

Friday, July 27:
Mission Impossible: Fallout--This is the sixth installment of the franchise that began all the way back in 1996. It's become one of the more reliable, and better, action franchises over the years, and I'm excited to have Ethan Hunt and the team back this summer.

Teen Titans GO to the Movies--This animated film, a spin-off from the TV series, will likely appeal to families and younger viewers as the summer draws to a close.
