Upcoming Releases — October, 2018

October is here, and so are some of the movies that will be contending for the year's top prize. Let's take a look!

Friday, October 5:
A Star is Born
— This re-make starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga could be THE movie of the month, and possibly the year. It's generated tons of buzz and has been well-reviewed thus far.

Venom — This is a comic book film, but not the kind you'd expect. It's one focused on a villain, in this case played by Tom Hardy. I'm on the fence about this.

The Hate U Give — This film, based on a novel, is about a police shooting and the aftermath. It looks like a powerful, emotional, and politically-charged tale.

Friday, October 12:
First Man
— This is another strong contender for Best Picture, a biopic focusing on Neil Armstrong. This one comes from Damien Chazelle, and stars Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy.

Bad Times at the El Royale — The ad campaign for this is overwhelming, but the cast looks strong and this film has a real "Pulp Fiction" vibe that I find appealing. I think it could be one of the best of the month.

Goosebumps: Haunted Halloween — This sequel to "Goosebumps" is a family-friendly option perfectly timed for Halloween.

Friday, October 19:
Halloween
— This isn't a re-make, but more of a sequel that imagines the many (many) other sequels never happened. It comes from David Gordon Green and returns Jamie Lee Curtis to the role of Laurie Strode. I think this has a lot of potential to be pretty engaging if you're a horror movie fan.

Friday, October 26:
Johnny English Strikes Again
— This sequel returns Mr. Bean to the titular role in a new comedy adventure.

Indivisible — This is the true story of an Army chaplain, his family and the story of following his calling. Seems like it will be a powerful, faith-based story.

Suspiria — This re-make of the classic horror film stars Dakota Johnson. It looks pretty creepy and is obviously a timely release.

Hunter Killer — This depicts a U.S. on the verge of all out war with Russia and a sub commander (Gerard Butler) who has to try to and save the world. Gary Oldman and Common are also in the cast, and it looks like a decent action film, albeit one that has an oddly timed release date.
