2018 Broncos' Season, Week 8
Week 8: Kansas City Chiefs 30, Broncos 23
Season Record: 3-5 (2-2 Home)
Key Play: In the second half, leading 23-14, Patrick Mahomes connected with Kareem Hunt on a 23-yard TD pass on fourth down, putting the team up 30-14. The Chiefs never looked back.
Recap: The Broncos are 3-5 and any hope of making the playoffs is over. The team trails the Chiefs by four games in the AFC West, and was swept by the Chiefs. A Wild Card berth is unlikely. In short, it's a lost season and it's possible the Broncos trade some key pieces before Week 9, including Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, Brandon Marshall and Bradley Roby. We'll see about that. It was another day of self-inflicted wounds, too. Case Keenum threw another INT, as he has every game this season. He also fumbled the ball. And there were plenty of penalties, too. Phillip Lindsay likely would have had 150 yards or more if not for the constant holding calls. This team is hard to watch, and it's only getting harder. Week 7 was a reprieve from the sadness, but now it looks like the Broncos are in for another long stretch. What more is there to say. The Broncos host the Texans next Sunday.
Game Balls:
* Phillip Lindsay. The rookie stepped up with Royce Freeman out. He carried 18 times for 95 yards and a TD, with many big plays called back thanks to penalties. He added three receptions for 17 yards.
* Devontae Booker. Booker carried nine times for 78 yards. He looked good in an expanded role.
Lingering Questions:
* Coaching Woes. This team is unprepared week in and week out. They need a leader to maximize a talented roster.
* Who Goes. The trade deadline is Tuesday, so we have a few days to learn who will finish the season in Denver.
