2019 Broncos' Season, Week 14
Week 14: Broncos 38, Houston Texans 24
Season Record: 5-8 (3-3 Home)
Key Play: In the first half, trailing 24-3, the Texans faced a fourth and 1 with two minutes left deep in their own territory. Deshaun Watson dropped back, but Shelby Harris batted the pass attempt to force a turnover on downs. The Broncos went down to score just before the half, to lead 31-3, then scored on the first possession of the second half to take a 38-3 lead.
Recap: Wow. That's really the best description that can be offered for what happened yesterday. Drew Lock showed no regression in his second start, in fact he exploded for more than 300 yards and three TDs. He did have a minor stumble in an interception late, but he's a rookie and he was trying to make a play. He'll learn from it. Meanwhile, the Broncos' defense was stout, and the offense looked explosive. The Broncos won a huge game and are really powering through a late season resurgence that offers plenty of excitement and hope for the future. This team has a strong young core, and these final few games were supposed to be about looking to the future, for players and coaches. Based on what we saw on Sunday, I'd say the future looks bright, and the Broncos might have finally found a franchise quarterback. There will be plenty of work to do in the off-season, and there's still plenty of questions about some of the big free agents signed last spring, as Bryce Callahan has yet to play for the Broncos and Ju'Waan James has yet to show he can stay on the field. But baby steps. For now, it's hard not to feel excited about this two game-winning streak the the hopes for the future. Next up, Lock gets to head to Kansas City to battle Patrick Mahomes!
Game Balls:
* Drew Lock. Lock passed for 309 yards and three touchdowns, moving to 2-0 as a starter. He looked great.
* Noah Fant. The young tight end was hurt late, which bears watching, but first he caught four passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. He's had a fine season and is growing into a dominant pass-catching target.
* Kareem Jackson. Jackson shined in his return to Houston, taking a fumble back for a touchdown, making a number of tough tackles and grabbing an interception.
