2020 Broncos' Season, Roster Projections

We're two and half weeks from the NFL Season and padded practices have begun, so it seems like a great time to take a run at a roster prediction. Right after I did this last time, guys opted out and got released. Let's hope I have better luck today. This is my best guess, as of today, about who makes the final 53-man roster.

Quarterback: (2)
* Drew Lock
* Jeff Driskel
About: As much as I like Brett Rypien, I don't see them using a third spot for a quarterback at this point. Barring an injury concern, I think the Broncos ride with two on the active roster.

Running Back: (3)
* Melvin Gordon
* Phillip Lindsay
* Royce Freeman
About:
Everyone in this group has starting experience. I thought about adding a fourth RB, but I think the Broncos have needs for depth elsewhere. Even with Gordon slightly banged up right now, I think the Broncos will go conservative here.

Wide Receiver: (6)
* Courtland Sutton
* Jerry Jeudy
* K.J. Hamler
* Tim Patrick
* DaeSean Hamilton
* Diontae Spencer
About:
This is a tough call. There are some fringe guys here, but I think the Broncos will keep the Top Five as potential Sunday contributors on offense, while Spencer is a return specialist. With Hamler a rookie and ailing, I think Spencer stays to help in that area.

Tight End: (4)
* Noah Fant
* Nick Vannett
* Albert Okweugbanum
* Jake Butt
About:
This is another tough position group as the Broncos have an embarrassment of riches. I thought about including Andrew Beck, who has fullback flexibility, but I think the Broncos will need more depth in key defensive positions and along the offensive line. So I went conservative at the skill position area. That leaves some hard cuts, Beck and Troy Fumagali among them.

Offensive Line: (9)
* Lloyd Cushenberry III
* Graham Glasgow
* Dalton Risner
* Garrett Bolles
* Elijah Wilkinson
* Demar Dotson
* Jake Rodgers
* Austin Schlottmann
* Netane Muti
About:
And so we get to a place where I think depth might be an issue. The Broncos signed Dotson to provide some depth and experience, and Muti and Cushenberry are talented rookies. I think the Broncos keep nine here so they have flexibility and some options.

Defensive Line: (6)
* Jurrell Casey
* Mike Purcell
* Shelby Harris
* McTelvin Agim
* Dre'Mont Jones
* DeMarcus Walker
About:
The question here for me is Walker. I feel like the other five are near locks, and I think Denver will limit to six in this group. Walker seems logical to make the final cut, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the Broncos pull the trigger and go another way. I could see DeShawn Williams being the guy here.

Linebacker: (10)
* Von Miller
* Bradley Chubb
* Jeremiah Attaochu
* Malik Reed
* Justin Hollins
* Todd Davis
* Alexander Johnson
* Josey Jewell
* Joe Jones
* Josh Watson
About:
This is another place I think the Broncos go for depth. Rookie Justin Strnad seemed a lock to make the roster before an injury ended his season. With Davis already hobbling, and many in this group playing Special Teams, I think the Broncos keep 10. That has me including Josh Watson as the last man on the list.

Secondary: (10)
* A.J. Bouye
* Bryce Callahan
* Michael Ojemudia
* De'Vante Bausby
* Davontae Harris
* Duke Dawson, Jr.
* Justin Simmons
* Kareem Jackson
* Trey Marshall
* Douglas Coleman III
About:
This is another place where I opted for some depth, specifically at cornerback. Ojemudia is banged up right now, and the Broncos had plenty of injuries at corner in 2019. I think they'll be cautious and take some options, several of whom can contribute on Special Teams as well. Safety is a place where a lot of depth left this off-season, but I think Coleman could continue the tradition of an undrafted free agent making the final roster.

Special Teams: (3)
* Brandon McManus K
* Sam Martin, P
* Wes Farnsworth LS
About:
This is a pretty straightforward group, but it's a shot in the dark when it comes to picking a Long Snapper.
