2020 Broncos' Season, Training Camp Round Up

The Broncos' 2020 Season begins two weeks from tonight, and the team is working hard to get ready for that time. As such, it was a fairly active week. Below I'll look at a couple moves and what it means as we get ready for some real, meaningful football.

Broncos Sign Mark Barron
Rookie Justin Strnad seemed poised for a big role this season before an injury, and wrist surgery, ended his year. That left the Broncos looking for more depth a middle linebacker, especially while lacking the kind of depth at safety that benefitted the team last season. Enter veteran Mark Barron, who signed a one-year contract with Denver on Sunday. Barron has played for the Buccaneers, who drafted him No. 7 overall in 2012, the Rams and most recently the Steelers. On a good Steelers' defense he played in 15 games last year, starting nine, and racking up 82 tackles, three sacks, an interception, a fumble recovery and three passes defensed. He gives the Broncos a quality veteran in the middle, and someone who can help cover athletic tight ends. I mentioned last week that linebacker was a question mark for Denver and a spot of need, and Barron should help with that. I'd wager he makes the team and ends up being a solid contributor.

Darrin Paulo Claimed on Waivers
The undrafted free agent tackle out of Utah was claimed from the Saints. It's not a huge move, but it speaks to the fact the Broncos still have questions at offensive line, and still have questions about depth. Graham Glasgow is the latest Bronco to be banged up, and with the expanded Practice Squads, I could see the Broncos continuing to collect options at offensive line for this season.

Wes Farnsworth Released
This isn't the biggest news, but one of two long snappers for the Broncos was cut free. I mentioned last week that me projecting a final roster ensured changes would be made, and it didn't take long for Farnsworth, my pick at long snapper, to be cut loose. That means the job seems locked up for Jacob Bobenmoyer, who the Broncos like after picking him up as an undrafted free agent. We're starting to get more clarity, despite a lack of games, about who might make the final 53, something the Broncos have to decide on soon.
