Favorite Broncos, No. 7
I miss football, and sports in general. I'm guessing you do, too. And in the place of actual games, we've been seeing a lot of countdowns of classic games, players, etc. And that got me thinking about my own favorite team, the Denver Broncos. I have loved the Denver Broncos since I was a little kid, more than 30 years of fandom. I started watching them in the late 1980s, and have been faithful ever since. So I thought it might be fun to take a little walk down memory lane and consider my favorite players from those teams. So this is just a personal list, that will be presented in reverse order starting at number 30. Agree, disagree, have your own stories? Share them in the comments.
No. 7 Peyton Manning (2012-2015)
About: There will be some that think this is too low. What I'll say is the fact Manning is on this list at all is a testament to the four years he played in Denver. Prior to him coming to the Broncos, there was no player I hated more than Peyton Manning. I was excited when he failed and loathed when the Broncos played his Colts. Mostly because he was so damn good and made it look so easy when he was picking us apart. Then he came, and displaced Tim Tebow, a player I was fond of. I was angry. But my wife loved Peyton and his commercials right away. And it wasn't until he was in Denver that I realized we should all love Peyton. What he does on the field is great, and he was incredible for the Broncos. We won the division each of his four seasons, went to the Super Bowl twice and won the title in his final season. That's all great. But it's because of who Peyton is off the field that people love him. And, for my wife, it didn't hurt that she got to meet him and get his autograph, a moment she never lets me forget. If you want an appreciation for who Peyton is, check out his ESPN Plus series, "Peyton's Places." So, I appreciate what he did on the field. Peyton threw for 17,112 yards and 140 touchdowns, going 45-12 in four seasons. He was a beast on the field, but he's a better man off it. That's why he is rightly revered in Indianapolis and here in Denver. Thank You Peyton!
