2020 Broncos' Season, Week 6

Week 6: Denver Broncos 18, New England Patriots 12
Season Record: 2-3 (0-2 Home)
Key Play: In the fourth quarter, with the Broncos up 18-12 and Cam Newton driving with the game quickly fading away, the Broncos' defense stepped up with a sack from Malik Reed on second down. On fourth and 10, Newton's pass sailed wide and the Broncos took over on downs with time winding down, leading to the victory.

Recap: After more than a week of uncertainty, it was nice to just get a game. Prior to Sunday, the Broncos last played on October 1, recording a win over the Jets. Yesterday Drew Lock was able to return after missing two full games and most of a third thanks to a shoulder injury. He looked pretty good, hitting Tim Patrick on a few long throws and helping the Broncos build an early lead. Noah Fant was out with an ankle injury, but seems close to a return, hopefully against the Chiefs. The Broncos also got Philip Lindsay back, and he looked good. The defense also looked good, smothering Cam Newton and forcing three turnovers. Those are all positives. But as Vic Fangio noted, the team needs touchdowns, not just field goals. And it wasn't a great fourth quarter, as the offense seemed to step away from the play calling and strategy that had helped them build an 18-3 lead. Lock also needs to be better, as he was just 10-for-24 with two interceptions (thanks to some dropped balls as well). He'll get better as he plays, but the offense looked solid at times yesterday. We just need to convert those touchdowns, and keep running strong to stay in the game with the Chiefs in Week 7.

Game Balls:
* Philip Lindsay
. Lindsay returned from injury and rushed for 101 yards on 23 carries, looking strong and powerful at times.
* Tim Patrick. Patrick has been a weapon on the outside, catching four passes for 101 yards.
* Justin Simmons, Bryce Callahan, DeShawn Williams. The defense stepped up and came through, with Williams and Callahan making interceptions and Simmons making a big fumble recovery.
* Malik Reed. Reed stepped up with two big sacks on Sunday, leading a ferocious attack that kept Cam Newton and the Patriots in check.

Lingering Questions:
* Scoring Touchdowns.
Can the Broncos turn some of these field goals into touchdowns and compete with the Chiefs.
* Health. Can the Broncos get their players back healthy on both sides of the ball and make a run toward being the team we thought they could be.
