2020 NFL Season, Post-Season Award Picks
NFL MVP
There are a few options here. I think Patrick Mahomes
is on the short list, and Aaron Rodgers may well be the favorite for his
48-touchdowns and the Packers’ top seed in the NFC. But here’s the thing, I’m
going with Josh Allen. The third year pro had an amazing season, leading the
Bills to a 13-win season and completed more than 69 percent of his passes,
throwing for more than 4,500 yards and 37 TDs. That is a HUGE jump in
completion percentage and passing yards as Allen came into his own and looked
incredible. That’s without taking into account that he ran for 421 yards and
eight TDs.
Coach of the Year
There are a few great candidates here. Ron Rivera,
beating back cancer and getting Washington to the playoffs is inspiring. And Buffalo
Bills Coach Sean McDermott deserves a ton of credit, too. But I’m going with
Kevin Stefanski, who helped turn around the culture for the Browns and guide
them to an 11-win season and a playoff berth. It’s one of the feel good stories
of the season, and I’m all in. I think the Browns have a good chance to win their
first playoff game, too!
Comeback Player of the Year
It has to be Alex Smith, quarterback for the
Washington Football Team. He started six games, going 5-1, and his team won the
division and made the playoffs. He threw for 1,582 yards and six TDs. It’s
incredible to see him on the field and a great story he made the playoffs.
Offensive Rookie of the Year
This is a tough battle for me. For most of the year
I’ve been on Justin Herbert, and I still think he’s a good choice. But I
decided to go with Justin Jefferson, the receiver for the Minnesota Vikings. He
had 88 receptions, went for 1,400 yards and got seven touchdowns. He stepped in
for Stefon Diggs and did a great job opposite Adam Thielen in that offense, and
I think he’s only going to get better.
Defensive Rookie of the Year
It might seem cliché, but I’m going with Chase Young.
He was the best defensive player in the draft, and he’s been a force for
Washington. He finished with 12 quarterback hits, 7.5 sacks, four passes
defensed, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He was a big part of
the reason Washington won the division and made the playoffs.
Fantasy Football MVP
I’m going with Alvin Kamara, who I think should have
been a consideration for NFL MVP. It was a bummer he missed Week 17, but in
most people’s championship week, Kamara was gold. He ran for 155 yards and six
TDs in that win over Minnesota. He rushed for a career high 932 yards and 16
TDs, catching a career high 83 passes for 756 yards and five more TDs. He was
incredible on the field, and the only Top 5 pick in re-draft this year that consistently
produced huge numbers.
