Summer Movie Preview, Pt. 2

Summer blockbuster season is nearly upon us at the movies. Yesterday I looked at three films I'm hyped to see from May and June. Today, I'm looking at three films I'm excited to see from July and August. Films appear in release date order!

July:

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One (July 14)
About:
The seventh Mission Impossible film is a two-parter, with the first half bowing this July. We've had to wait a while for this one but the Tom Cruise Mission Impossible series has been incredible. I'm excited to see the next chapter unfold.

Barbie (July 21)
About:
Gretta Gerwig brings the famous doll to life, this time as Margot Robbie, with Ryan Gosling as Ken. At least that is one Barbie and one Ken featured in the film, which takes us to Barbieland. The trailer is a blast with an incredible look and style. This will be one of THE films of the summer.

Oppenheimer (July 21)
About:
Ironically on the same day, Christopher Nolan is releasing his latest film, which looks at Robert Oppenheimer and the creation of the Atomic Bomb. Nolan is perhaps my favorite director working today and this looks to be an incredible exploration.

August:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (August 4)
About:
This reboot of the franchise is an animated tale that counts Seth Rogen and his partner, Evan Goldberg, among its producers. It has a top-notch voice cast and the trailer is a lot of fun. This will be a late summer film with broad appeal.

Meg 2: The Trench (August 4)
About:
I'm a nut for shark movies and the first film that came out in 2018 was excellent. Did we need a sequel? Probably not, but I'm still going to be in the theater to see how this one shakes out!

Blue Beatle (August 18)
About:
This is a DC superhero film that is slipping in to begin a new phase, the James Gunn DCEU, while the remnants of the previous one is still playing out. It's hard to know how to feel about this film but I'm curious to see how this one plays out.
