Games of the Week
Some weeks we’re blessed with wonderful matchups throughout the day. Some weeks we’re not. This week is one of those second option weeks. There are some interesting matchups in the early window but only three late games. None of the late window games, nor Sunday Night Football, are very exciting. Nevertheless, below are my best games of the Sunday slate!
Sunday Early Games:
Atlanta Falcons (2-0) at Detroit Lions (1-1)
About: This is two up-and-coming teams. The Falcons are 2-0 after two wins at home, the second of which was a one-point comeback victory. The Lions, meanwhile, won on Opening Night in Kansas City only to lose a heartbreaker in overtime to the Seahawks in Week 2. Both are hungry for wins as they try to make moves in the NFC. This should be a fun one.
New Orleans Saints (2-0) at Green Bay Packers (1-1)
About: Another battle of surprise teams early in the season. The Saints are 2-0 but it has been far from pretty. The Packers, meanwhile, opened with two straight road games. They got the win in Chicago but came up a point short in Atlanta. Still, Jordan Love has tossed three touchdowns in each of the Packers’ first two games. Can he follow suit against a good New Orleans defense? The Saints have one last game without Alvin Kamara, and they’ll need to get the offense going to get a win in Green Bay.
Los Angeles Chargers (0-2) at Minnesota Vikings (0-2)
About: The team that loses this game is in big trouble. Both teams were in the playoffs in 2022. Both teams started 0-2. Neither can afford to go 0-3. And both teams have seen their defenses sputter while the offenses put up some big point totals. This has the potential to be a shootout and I’m here for it!
New England Patriots (0-2) at New York Jets (1-1)
About: This is a battle of division foes, both of whom want to remain somewhat in the post-season race. The Jets won opening night against the Bills but looked bad against the Cowboys. With Aaron Rodgers gone, it’s up to Zach Wilson to get it going. Can he be the guy? The Patriots, meanwhile, started 0-2 facing the Eagles and the Dolphins. They can ill-afford to go 0-3 and will need Mac Jones and the offense to step up. This figures to be a fierce defensive battle.
Indianapolis Colts (1-1) at Baltimore Ravens (2-0)
About: If you like running and running quarterbacks, this could be your jam. Anthony Richardson has looked good, though he is recovering from a concussion. If he can make it back, it will be fun to see him match up with Lamar Jackson. Both these teams have looked solid in the early going and this figures to be a fun chess match between a couple talented quarterbacks.
