2024 Broncos' Season, Week 10
Week 10: Kansas City Chiefs 16, Denver Broncos 14
Season Record: 5-5 (2-2 Home)
Key Play: In the Fourth Quarter, with only seconds remaining and the Broncos trailing by two points, the Chiefs blocked a go-ahead field goal to win the game.
Recap: I haven't given my heart to this team the way I have in years past with the Broncos. Part of it is the last decade has left a sour taste in my mouth, and part of it was a lack of faith in Sean Payton and George Paton. But when the Broncos got to 5-3, I got a little excited. Last week's loss to the Ravens seemed to confirm my feelings that this team wasn't ready. But this week's battle with the Chiefs got me excited again. In fact, I thought Denver was going to win and be 6-4, making a case to be considered for the playoffs in 2024. Sure, they might still get to the post-season. But this loss is gutting. A chip shot field goal for a win as time expired, and it's blocked by Kansas City. Yes, the Chiefs are a good team with good players, and a good coach. They also might be the luckiest team alive. Now, they are 9-0 and the Broncos are back to .500 with a crucial home game against the Falcons. I said a bit ago that this three-game stretch would say a lot about the Broncos and the 2024 season. So far, this team is 0-2 in those games. They can win next week and keep hope alive. But if the Broncos slip to 5-6, I think it's going to be tough to make the post-season field. We'll see how it goes.
Game Balls:
* Devaughn Vele and Courtland Sutton. Sutton has been on a heater, and added six more catches for 70 yards and a touchdown. But the rookie Vele continues to impress, too, catching a touchdown of his own.
* Denver DST. This is a team shout out. The defense has been stout this season, and held Patrick Mahomes in check, beating him up along the way. The Chiefs had only one touchdown in four Red Zone trips. That's a credit to this defense.
