Upcoming Releases, January 2025

We've reached January. We're in a new year, but sometimes it will be hard to tell at theaters. This is a month about a few new releases--mostly evergreen horror--and some films from the tail end of 2024 finally getting a wide release. There's something for everyone! Let's dive in.

Friday, January 3:
The Damned (Theaters):
I mentioned horror is evergreen, well here's a prime example. This horror movie is the first wide release of the year.

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl (Netflix): This is a 2024 release for awards, but it's getting a wide distribution on Netflix. It's a cute one that's great for the whole family.

Friday, January 10:
Better Man (Theaters):
This biopic of Robbie Williams got a limited release on Christmas Day. Now, it's going wide for the masses!

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera (Theaters): This is a bigger action film, a sequel to the film starring Gerard Butler from a few years ago. Expect plenty of shooting.

Hard Truths (Theaters): Another late 2024 film getting a wider release, this one comes from Mike Leigh. It's a tough drama with a tough lead character, but it's a good film.

Thursday, January 16:
Unstoppable (Prime Video):
This is an inspiring sports story. Here we get a one-legged wrestler whose mother is played by Jennifer Lopez. Expect to find some inspiration.

Friday, January 17:
One of Them Days (Theaters):
This is a wild comedy being led by Keke Palmer and SZA. This one looks like a wild ride that could be a lot of fun.

September 5 (Theaters): Another 2024 film getting a wide release. This takes the action back to the Munich Olympics in 1972 and the ABC team covering the unfolding hostage crisis. This was one of my favorites from last year.

Wolf Man (Theaters): Following up on The Invisible Man, we get another re-boot of a classic horror property. This one features Christopher Abbott and figures to get folks going on the holiday weekend.

Back in Action (Netflix): This new action film features Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz. The return of the actors makes the headlines, will it live up to the hype?

Friday, January 24:
Flight Risk (Theaters):
Delayed from 2024, this is an action thriller starring Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Dockery. It comes from director Mel Gibson and looks to be thrilling.

Thursday, January 30:
You're Cordially Invited (Prime Video):
A romantic comedy featuring Reese Witherspoon. It's a couple weeks early, but it kicks off the romance season.

Friday, January 31:
Companion (Theaters)
: This is an interesting sci/fi horror film. Could be a sneaky fascinating late January release.

Dog Man (Theaters): We end the month with one for the family! This animated film ought to be a crowd please for younger audiences.
