2015 Rewind: Furious 7


It's hard to believe, but 2015 was 10 years ago. Over the next few weeks I'm going to be looking at some stand out films from 2015 that are turning 10 in 2025. Today, it's a classic franchise entry that bids farewell to a star.

Director: James Wan
About: Walker was a great guy and an integral part of this franchise. We'll see maybe the final installment of the franchise this year, but it hasn't been the same since Walker's death. This film was his final appearance, and even that had to be helped. But the touching tribute at the end to his character was a point in film when even the most stoic got a little moist around the eyes. This is a fine film, but as a tribute to Walker, his life, and his on-screen legacy, it feels perfect. It's definitely one to remember from 2015.

  Do you like a good Western? It's a classic genre in film and this year I've decided to look at some of my favorite Westerns. True Grit (1969) Starring : John Wayne, Kim Darby, Glen Campbell, Robert Duvall, and Dennis Hopper Director : Henry Hathaway About: This is the third straight week with a film from Wayne. As you might guess, we're not done. As I've mentioned, he sets a standard for the genre. Here, we seen him bring to life an iconic character. This one is based on a novel, and it has endured. For what kind of man would I be if I did not help my mother? If I did not save her? The Power of the Dog (2021) Starring : Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Jesse Plemons Director: Jane Campion About : Another modern entry, and another unconventional choice for this list, perhaps. This is a quiet and pensive story, but it certainly captures the brutality and struggle of the western genre. Campion does a beautiful job of laying out this story and world. The cinematography here works well to build the story and the vibe of the production. That's one of the things that stuck out to me.
