Broncos' Draft Needs
The NFL Draft kicks off today. That's the next evolution of the off-season, and there is still plenty of work left to be done for the Broncos. But where might they go with picks? Below, I'm looking at five positions where I think they might add some pieces over the next three days. Positions appear in order of need.
No. 1: Running Back
About: The Broncos let Javonte Williams go in free agency, which leaves them with options but no clear distribution in the backfield. Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime are the best bets, but Tyler Badie and Blake Watson are available. Still, the Broncos looked at Aaron Jones in free agency, which indicates they want something else in the backfield. I think this draft, which is deep at running back, is the answer. Will it be in Round One? That remains to be seen. But I think the starting running back for the Broncos isn't on the roster yet.
No. 2: Offensive Line
About: Can you ever have enough lineman? No, you can't. Plus, there are long-term questions at Right Tackle. If there was another position the Broncos were going to prioritize at No. 20 overall, this feels like the right option. Could it be? Maybe.
No. 3: Tight End
About: I know what you're thinking, the team signed Evan Engram. But that doesn't rule out taking an elite tight end. The Broncos could grab Colston Loveland in the First Round, or a player like Elijah Arroyo in the Second Round. In fact, I think it's likely.
No. 4: Linebacker
About: The Broncos improved their situation with Dre Greenlaw. But depth is always an issue, and Greenlaw has struggled with injuries at times. All that makes this an interesting position. But is the draft a great place to get a linebacker? That's more of a question. It certainly won't be in the First Round.
No. 5: Wide Receiver
About: Many have thought the Broncos needed another wide receiver. They haven't been active looking for one in free agency. But could the draft be the spot? It's a thought. Personally, I like the combination of Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin, Marvin Mims, and Devaughn Vele. Still, I think the Broncos would be wise to add a rookie or two, even if in the later rounds.
Let's see what the Broncos do in the NFL Draft!
