2000 Rewind: Gladiator
It's hard to believe, but 2000 was 25 years ago. Over the next few weeks I'm going to be looking at some stand out films from 2000 that are turning 25 in 2025. Today, it's the Best Picture winner.
Maximus: [removes helmet and turns around to face Commodus] My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the TRUE emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.
Gladiator (2000)
Starring: Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, and Richard Harris
Director: Ridley Scott
About: It's hard for me to believe this film is turning 25 years old. In fact, it's already passed that anniversary. I remember seeing the film on my birthday weekend in my first year of college. Maybe I can't believe it's 25 because I feel old. Anyway, the film still holds up. Crowe is great here and Scott does a great job in bringing this blockbuster to life. We got a sequel to this film last November that didn't live up to the legacy. But I re-watched the film again and this one still holds up. I enjoy the story and I enjoy the production. This also has an incredible score. It's a fun film that is worth checking out.
