2025 Broncos' Season, NFL Draft Recap
The 2025 NFL Draft is in the books and the Broncos made a total of seven picks over three days. Below is a look at the Broncos' draft as we move into the next phase of the off-season.
The first pick, in the First Round, saw the Broncos take a cornerback, Jahdae Baron. It was a surprising pick as cornerback didn't seem a top need. But it gives the Broncos a defensive weapon and solidifies some great depth in the secondary opposite Pat Surtain.
One of the biggest areas of need for the Broncos was running back. The team answered that need in the Second Round, snagging former UCF back R.J. Harvey. He rushed for nearly 3,000 yards and 38 touchdowns the past two seasons. He could have a big role in a backfield that is very much in flux. The Broncos have Audric Estime and Jaleel McLaughlin, but Harvey is likely to take on the primary role.
The Broncos also added receiver Pat Bryant, out of Illinois, in the Third Round. Where does he fit in the overall scheme of things? That's unclear. I like Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims, Troy Franklin, and Devaughn Vele ahead of Bryant at this point. In the Seventh Round, the Broncos added tight end Caleb Lohner as a development prospect.
The rest of the draft was focused on defensive needs and Special Teams. The Broncos did take a Sixth Round pick to draft a punter, Jeremy Crawshaw of Florida. He will compete with free agent Matt Haack to fill the void at punter.
The other picks, a Third and Fourth-Round pick, were used on pass rushers. The Broncos took Que Robinson out of Alabama and Sai'von Jones out of LSU. Adding more depth at pass rusher is helpful for the defense.
Overall, it was a surprising draft for the Broncos. On the surface, it doesn't seem like a home run for a team that made the playoffs in 2024 and is looking to bounce back. Much will depend on the impacts made by Baron on defense and Harvey on offense. For now, it remains a curious draft to me.
