1995 Rewind: Braveheart
It's hard to believe, but 1995 was 30 years ago. Over the next few weeks I'm going to be looking at some stand out films from 1995 that are turning 30 in 2025. Today, the Best Picture winner.
William Wallace: Every man dies, not every man really lives.
Braveheart
Starring: Mel Gibson, Sophie Marceau, Patrick McGoohan, Angus MacFayden, and Brendan Gleeson
Director: Mel Gibson
About: This was the Best Picture winner 30 years ago. Some will quibble about whether it was THE best film of the year it was released, but those things are always a bit subjective. What's inarguable is that it is an epic and it's still a film that's remembered with great fanfare 30 years later. Gibson does a great job in front of and behind the camera. The battle sequences are memorable and epic. But it's the characters and the journey that works beautifully. The characters are memorable, as is the dialogue. The film does a great job of telling this story in a compelling way. It's a worthy film to revisit in its anniversary year.
