1995 Rewind: Crimson Tide
It's hard to believe, but 1995 was 30 years ago. Over the next few weeks I'm going to be looking at some stand out films from 1995 that are turning 30 in 2025. Today, it's a great film from Tony Scott.
Capt. Ramsey: God help you if you're wrong.
Hunter: If I'm wrong, then we're at war; God help us all.
Crimson Tide
Starring: Denzel Washington, Gene Hackman, Viggo Mortensen, James Gandolfini, George Dzundza, and Matt Craven
Director: Tony Scott
About: Ridley Scott has built a reputation an a great director, which is earned, but I think his brother was under-rated. Tony Scott didn't make the biggest awards bait, but he made some classic bangers. Crimson Tide, which pits Hackman and Washington against each other aboard a Nuclear Submarine while the clock is ticking is one of those films. It's tense, beautifully constructed, and incredibly gripping. It's held up for me since I first saw it 30 years ago. The performances are magnificent here. I love Hackman and the supporting cast, but this is an all time banger from Washington. The idea here is engaging, and the execution is brilliant. This is a classic and an under-rated film.
