Mid-Year Best of TV

We've reached the mid-point in the year. This is a good time to pause, reflect, and consider what's come so far in the year. Today, I'll be looking at my favorite TV Seasons of 2025 so far. TV is usually strongest the first half of the year, prior to the Emmy window. So, many of my top selections might still be there in December. First, I'll list my No. 20-No. 6 in ascending order. For the final five, also in ascending order, I'll be giving a little more information.

20. Landman, Season 1, Paramount+
19. Reacher, Season 3, Prime Video
18. MobLand, Season 1, Paramount+
17. Etoile, Season 1, Prime Video
16. Abbott Elementary, Season 4, ABC
15. The Righteous Gemstones, Season 4, HBO
14. Daredevil: Born Again, Season 1, Disney+
13. 1923, Season 2, Paramount+
12. The Four Seasons, Season 1, Netflix
11. Paradise, Season 1, Hulu
10. On Call, Season 1, Prime Video
9. The Studio, Season 1, Apple TV+
8. Bosch: Legacy, Season 3, Prime Video
7. Dept. Q, Season 1, Netflix
6. Andor, Season 2, Disney+

No. 5: Adolescence, Netflix
About
: This four-part limited series from Stephen Graham hit hard. There are some great performances, but it's the subject that really stands out. The craft is exceptional, as are the performances and the story hits hard.

No. 4: The Rehearsal, Season 2, HBO
About
: Nathan Fielder is a unique content producer. His docuseries is in part a comedy. This second season had some really amazing and funny moments. But it's also quite serious and engaging. The finale, in particular, hit hard for me.

No. 3: Severance, Season 2, Apple TV+
About
: This second season of Severance picked up the pieces of the first season three years later. I really enjoyed the progression and the craft remains incredible. The performances are great, too. I don't know where we go from here, but I'm enjoying the ride.

No. 2: The Bear, Season 4, Hulu
About
: This remains one of the best shows on television. We know now that this isn't the final season, but it would have been a beautiful ending. I am deeply moved by the series and the performances in it. This was simply a beautiful 10-episode season of television.

No. 1: The Pitt, Season 1, HBO Max
About
: I loved ER. At one point I had watched the show for more years of my life than I had not been watching it. The Pitt captures that energy and takes it to new heights. Noah Wyle is simply exceptional in the lead role.
