NFC East Preview
We're quickly approaching the 2025 NFL Season. As such, I'll be previewing each of the divisions over the next few weeks. We'll look at teams in order of finish, then I'll make a prediction for the new season.
Philadelphia Eagles
2024 Record: 14-3
About: The Eagles were great in 2024. They finished with a great record, won the division, and then won the Super Bowl. They have all the big pieces back, including Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith. The defense is stout, too. The Eagles figure to be atop the NFC East again and a strong contender in the NFC.
Washington Commanders
2024 Record: 12-5
About: The Commanders were a big, and welcome surprise in 2024. Jayden Daniels was the Rookie of the Year, and led his team to the NFC Championship Game. The Commanders played a fierce style of football that seemed to announce they'll be contenders in the NFC. I expect that to continue in 2025, though it's a bit worrying that Terry McLaurin is at odds with the club. They need to get that worked out.
Dallas Cowboys
2024 Record: 7-10
About: The Cowboys had injuries and inconsistency in 2024 that led to a poor finish, outside the playoffs. Now, with Mike McCarthy out, Brian Schottenheimer takes over. Dak Prescott is back healthy, and the team added George Pickens across from CeeDee Lamb. That should be a boost for the passing offense. Can Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders, or Jaydon Blue thrive in the backfield? That will determine how high the Cowboys can climb.
New York Giants
2024 Record: 3-14
About: The Giants struggled mightily in 2024. That led to the team parting company with Daniel Jones and now they are starting over with myriad options. That includes veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, along with rookie Jaxson Dart. The team added rookie Cam Skattebo in the backfield to help the rushing attack. They also have a top receiver in Malik Nabers. But quarterback is a question that needs answering for the Giants.
The Bottom Line: I think this is a three-horse race. I expect the Eagles, Commanders, and Cowboys all to push for the top of the NFC East. The teams have good rosters and will all be part of the playoff push. The Giants, meanwhile, still feel like the odd team out. I don't think they're substantially better. This could well put Brian Daboll on the hot seat again.
