Fall TV Roundup, Week 12
We’re flying toward Thanksgiving and the end of November. That means the flow of new content for 2025 is coming to an end. Still, with the holidays and a little extra time on your hands, you might be looking at new shows. But what are worth your time to check out? Let this weekly post be your guide as I review the pilot and second episode of new series this Fall. Don’t see a new show listed below? Check previous weeks.
Wednesdays:
The Mighty Nein, Streaming Wednesdays on Prime Video (Premiered November 19)
About: This animated series made its debut on Wednesday. Three episodes of a planned eight-episode series dropped on Wednesday. Each is about 45 minutes. The rest will drop weekly moving forward. The series comes from Critical Role, which created The Legend of Vox Machina, an animated series that previously aired on Prime Video. This is a new story with new character set in a similar world. It’s got a similar style and a similar look and feel. If you were a fan of the original, then this will work well for you. It’s got solid animated style that fans will appreciate. But if you’re not into the world or familiar with the source material, this might not capture you. It definitely feels like a specific niche type of programming.
Pilot Grade: C
Second Episode: C
Streaming Series:
One Shot With Ed Sheeran, Now Streaming on Netflix (Premiered November 21)
About: It’s been a big year for Philip Barantini on Netflix. The director delivered the searing mini-series Adolescence, which featured some incredible one-shot tracking sequences. It’s one of the best series of the year. Now, he’s back with another interesting and ambitious concept. It’s a single shot, over the course of an hour, following Ed Sheeran around New York City as he plays music, meets people, and explores the world. It’s a simple concept, but it’s executed brilliantly. I’m not sure if it qualifies as a series, being a one-off. But if Barantini wants to bring this concept back with others, I would be completely on board. This is well worth checking out, especially if you’re a fan of creative visuals and incredible music. This ruined concerts for me forever.
Special Grade: A
