Upcoming Releases, December 2025


 We've made it to the final month of the year. There are some blockbuster releases, holiday releases, and plenty of award contenders. Let's dive in.

Monday, December 1:
Merchants of Joy (Prime Video)
: This new documentary looks at New York's Christmas Tree industry. Sounds like some holiday fun.

Wednesday, December 3:
Oh. What. Fun. (Prime Video):
This is another original Christmas film, this one led by Michelle Pfieffer. It's a big cast that looks like big fun.

Friday, December 5:
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (Theaters):
We're back with another dive into the Freddy's world, which is based on the game. The first one was fine, this figures to be more of the same.

Fackham Hall (Theaters): This is a riff on the Downton Abbey world. It's got a good cast and it looks like it will be kind of fun.

Merrily We Roll Along (Theaters): This is a filmed version of the Broadway play led by Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff. It's a good filming, which should appeal to Broadway fans.

100 Nights of Hero (Limited): This is an original film from IFC that is making a limited theatrical run. It's got a good cast and should be a fun action-oriented fairy tale.

Jay Kelly (Netflix): This one is hotly anticipated. It stars George Clooney and Adam Sandler. After a short theatrical run, it drops on Netflix and could be an awards player. 

Wednesday, December 10:
Merv (Prime Video):
Another original Christmas tale, this one featuring Zooey Deschanel, Charlie Cox, and a dog. Count me in.

Friday, December 12:
Ella McCay (Theaters)
: A new film from James L. Brooks. This feels like a throw back in the best way. It looks like a bit of fun.

Wake Up Dead Man (Netflix): This is the third Knives Out mystery from Rian Johnson. This one has another killer cast and some good early reviews. I'm pumped.

Friday, December 19:
Avatar: Fire and Ash (Theaters):
This is the third Avatar film, another big screen spectacle. This should be one of the biggest blockbusters of the month.

Is This Thing On? (Theaters): The latest from Bradley Cooper, this one about a newly divorced father finding himself in the world of comedy. This should be a great December addition.

The Housemaid (Theaters): Based on the novel, this one pits Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney against each other. Should be an interesting battle.

SpongeBob the Movie: The Search for Square Pants (Theaters): Another live-action SpongeBob movie. This is for the fans.

Thursday, December 25:
Marty Supreme (Theaters):
This is one of the biggest releases to end the year, a showcase for Timothee Chalamet. This should be a Best Picture contender.

Anaconda (Theaters): This Paul Rudd and Jack Black team up is a riff on the classic monster movie. This should be some fun.

Song Sung Blue (Theaters): Based on the true story, this is a musical love story starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson about the group Lightning and Thunder. This looks like some Christmas fun.

The Testament of Ann Lee (Limited): This one has an amazing lead performance from Amanda Seyfried and is based on the found of the Shaker movement. This should be an award contender.

No Other Choice (Limited): One of the biggest non-English language releases of the year. This should be a player in the Academy Award competition.
