Best Picture Nominees: Sinners
The Academy Awards are coming on March 15. We got the final list of nominees on January 22, and between now and the awards I'll be looking at the 10 Best Picture nominees and their chances of winning an award.
Sinners

About: This is the film that set the record with 16 nominations. It's one of the best motion pictures of the year and figures to be a big contender on Sunday night. It's not a question of if it will win, but rather how many it will win. I think it's a lock in Original Score and Casting. When it comes to craft, it could win any of the categories, but isn't a lock or even a front-runner. This includes Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Visual Effects, Sound, and Original Song. I am looking forward to seeing Caton perform "I Lied to You." Now let's talk the bigger awards. I think Coogler is a lock to win Original Screenplay, but likely falls short in Director. Lindo is surging in Supporting Actor, and Mosaku is surging in Supporting Actress. Either could win. I think one will break through as the film keeps gaining momentum. But neither are locks. In Best Actor, this race is sliding away from Timothee Chalamet. It seems like Jordan is gaining steam. It's a 50/50 proposition it seems, but I think Jordan will take it Sunday night. Finally, the question is Best Picture. One Battle After Another is likely a favorite. But I think Sinners is surging and could well win the biggest prize. My gut tells me it's happening.
