Upcoming Releases: April, 2026
We're making our way into April, which offers a blend of big releases and smaller films. Below is a look at the new movies coming in April.
Wednesday, April 1:
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (Theaters): This is a big, animated sequel to the Mario Brothers. It returns the same voice cast while expanding the world. This should be a huge release to kick off the month.
Friday, April 3:
The Drama (Theaters): This is a dramatic film starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya as a married couple going through some issues. It's a good cast and an intriguing premise, it should be a big draw for cinephiles.
The Great Awakening (Theaters): This is a docudrama focused on the historical spiritual movement of the same name. This figures to be ideally timed for Easter weekend.
Pizza Movie (Hulu): This is a new comedy headlined by Gaten Matarazzo of Stranger Things. This looks like a fun and potentially wild ride.
Friday, April 10:
You, Me & Tuscany (Theaters): This is a new romantic comedy starring Halle Bailey and Rege-Jean Page. It looks like a wild and fun story. This could be an ideal date night movie.
Exit 8 (Theaters): This is a fascinating new Japanese film that debuted at the Cannes Film Festival last summer. Now it's making its way to a wide release in the United States. It looks weird and intriguing.
Outcome (Apple TV+): This is a new dark comedy starring Keanu Reeves that comes from director Jonah Hill. It looks like an intriguing option for the streaming audience.
Thrash (Netflix): Do you like a good shark movie? If you do like a good shark movie, this Netflix offering might be for you. It features Phoebe Dynevor and could be a fun streaming option.
Friday, April 17:
Lee Cronin's The Mummy (Theaters): We have seen the monsterverse reborn in some more grounded horror films in recent years. The Mummy is the latest of those, and this is a far cry from the Brendan Fraser films. Still, it could be interesting.
Mother Mary (Theaters): This is the latest from director David Lowery. It features Anne Hathaway is an iconic and eclectic pop star. This won't be for everyone, but it should be unique.
Normal (Theaters): This action film stars Bob Odenkirk, who co-wrote the script with Derek Kolstad. Odenkirk has done a nice job in these every man action films in recent years, and this could be a fun one.
Friday, April 24:
Michael (Theaters): This is a big biopic of singer and icon Michael Jackson. It was delayed and there are mixed reports about the script, but the trailer has me hyped up.
Broken Bird (Theaters): This is a new horror film focused on a mortician. It's a bit of counter-programming it seems. It should appeal to horror fans.
Over Your Dead Body (Theaters): This is a new horror comedy from Jorma Taccone, one of the forces behind Lonely Island. It features Samara Weaving and Jason Segel. I'm in.
Desert Warrior (Theaters): This is a new action film starring Anthony Mackie and Sir Ben Kingsley. There's some potential here.
Apex (Netflix): This is a new action/survival film starring Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton. It's a good cast, with the potential for some good action sequences on the streamer. It's a nice addition to the April lineup.
