Upcoming Releases, July 2026
We've made it to July, the middle of summer, and predictably things are heating up at the Box Office. Let's dive in.
Wednesday, July 1:
* Minions & Monsters (Theaters): This is the latest in the Minions franchise, which is itself a spin-off of the Despicable Me franchise. The trailer and marketing looks fun enough. This ought to be great for younger viewers for the holiday weekend.
* Enola Holmes 3 (Netflix): This franchise, led by Millie Bobby Brown, has been a sturdy and reliable player for Netflix. I enjoyed the first two, focusing on Sherlock's sister, and I expect this to be fun, too.
Friday, July 3:
* Young Washington (Theaters): This one gets the traditional Friday slot for the holiday weekend. This is a biopic focusing on George Washington as a young man. Feels apt for the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Friday, July 10:
* Evil Dead Burn (Theaters): This is the latest from the Evil Dead franchise, which spins a new story for a new director. The trailer makes it look like this will be intense, graphic horror. It should appeal to fans.
* Moana (Theaters): This is the live-action re-make of the classic Disney cartoon. Dwayne Johnson reprises his role, and we get a return to the classic music. This should be fun.
Friday, July 17:
* The Odyssey (Theaters): This is Christopher Nolan's latest film, a big screen adaptation of the classic story from Homer. It has an amazing cast and an amazing trailer. This could be one of the biggest films of the year.
* Cut Off (Theaters): This is a comedy from Jonah Hill, who serves as co-writer, director and star. The film co-stars Kristen Wiig, among others, and looks like it will be OK counter-programming.
Friday, July 24:
* Pinocchio Unstrung (Theaters): The lone wide release on this date, as of now, is this low-budget horror film that's a twisted take on the Pinocchio story. It feels like a niche release.
* The Dink (Apple TV): This comedy about a washed up Tennis Pro tackling Pickleball stars Jake Johnson. This has some good comedy potential.
* Her Private Hell (Limited): The latest from Nicholas Wending Refen gets a limited release here. It drew a mixed response at Cannes, so I'm not sure it will play for a large audience.
Friday, July 31:
* Spider-Man: Brand New Day (Theaters): The fourth film in the franchise featuring Tom Holland, this one takes things in a new direction. The trailer looks great, so this could be a shot-in-the-arm for Marvel.
* I Want Your Sex (Limited): This comedy premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and now gets a limited release. It stars Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman, and earned some rave reviews at the festival.
