2026 Broncos' Season, Pre-Season Week 2

 


Pre-Season Week 2: Green Bay Packers 33, Denver Broncos 13
Pre-Season Record: 1-1 (0-1 Home)
Key Play: In the first half, with just over three minutes remaining, Will Sheppard caught a touchdown pass from Tyrod Taylor to give the Packers a 17-10 lead. The Packers never looked back.

Recap: The Broncos came into Friday's game with an eight-game pre-season winning streak. Given the new schedule, that's more than two years without losing in the pre-season. All streaks end. This one ended in spectacular fashion. The Broncos' top offense with Bo Nix looked good, scoring 10 points. The defense struggled throughout as the Packers hung 33 points and won by 20 points. It's a poor showing for a game that should have seen the starters dialing in. But it's pre-season, and it could be a learning point for the Broncos. Let's hope there is a bit more fight against the Vikings Friday, as players scramble to make the 53-man roster.

Game Balls:
* R.J. Harvey: Harvey started strong, catching a wheel route for a touchdown from Bo Nix on his lone drive.
* Red Murdock and Que Robinson. The pre-season is about young guys making an impact. Murdock, a rookie, led the team with seven tackles. Robinson, a young edge player, had the lone sack in the game.

53-Man Roster Projections:
* QB (2): Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham. I think Ehlinger is a Practice Squad guy.
* RB (3): J.K. Dobbins, R.J. Harvey, Jonah Coleman. I think the Broncos keep three here.
* FB (1): Adam Prentice
* WR (6): Jaylen Waddle, Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin, Marvin Mims, Jr., Pat Bryant, Lil' Jordan Humphrey. The Broncos have a deep group. As much as I'd like to see a young guy crack the lineup, this is what makes sense.
* TE (4): Evan Engram, Adam Trautman, Justin Joly, Nate Adkins. Adkins is a blocker and role player and Joly is the future, I think. Trautman and Engram likely lead this group in 2026.
* OL (9): Garrett Bolles, Quinn Meinerz, Mike McGlinchey, Ben Powers, Luke Wattenberg, Alex Forsyth, Calvin Throckmorton, Alex Palczewski, and Matt Peart. Another deep group. I could see it only being eight, or being nine and someone other than Peart getting the call. I feel strong about the top eight.
* DL (6): Malcolm Roach, D.J. Jones, Zach Allen, Eyioma Uwazurike, Jordan Jackson, Sai'vion Jones. This is tough. The rookie Tyler Onydeim could get the call, and Jones could be a Practice Squad guy. The starters and Uwazurike seem set, but beyond that there are questions.
* OLB (6): Nik Bonnito, Jonathan Cooper, Que Robinson, Jonah Elliss, Dondrea Tillman, Drew Sanders. Another deep position group, so I think the Broncos try to seek six here.
* ILB (4): Alex Singleton, Justin Strnad, Red Murdock, Karene Reid. This is a thin group. The Broncos may try to bring in a veteran, which could leave Murdock or Sanders on the bubble.
* CB (5): Pat Surtain II, Riley Moss, Jahdae Barron, Ja'Quan McMillan, Kris Abrams-Draine. This is a solid group that feels locked, unless Moss has an injury that lingers.
* S (4): Talanoa Hufanga, Brandon Jones, J.L. Skinner, Taylor Rapp. Adding Rapp this week is an indication the group wants depth. Skinner has been solid in camp and should make the team. The starters are locked.
*ST (3): Will Lutz, Jeremy Crawshaw, Mitchell Fraboni. This group feels set.

  It was a solid week for new releases, including my favorite animated film of the year. You can keep up with everything I’m watching by following me on Letterboxd @knighthawk7734.  Brats (Hulu) Synopsis : From Andrew McCarthy, this new documentary takes a look at the infamous Brat Pack. The film features interviews with the members as they look back at the title that branded them and helped define some of their career. As a member of the group, McCarthy brings a unique perspective. Often the interviews, with actors such as Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Timothy Hutton, and Demi Moore, among others, feels more like old friends catching up. There’s a sweetness and a lightness to the documentary that is incredibly appealing. The film does a good job of capturing the highs and lows, and helping these actors and actresses give an account of what the pressure of that time—and these high-profile films—meant in their lives and their careers.
