NFC East Preview

 


We’ve made it to August, which means the NFL Season is just around the corner! Over the course of the month, I’ll be previewing each of the division races, looking at the teams in order of finish from 2025. Below, we continue with the NFC East. Let’s dive in!

Philadelphia Eagles (11-6)
About: The Eagles had a decent season in 2025, finishing atop the NFC East and making the playoffs. But it never felt like the Eagles, the reigning champs, had the juice. They fell in the Wild Card Round, ending an uneven season. This off-season, A.J. Brown moved to the Patriots, while the Eagles re-loaded in the draft with Makai Lemon and Eli Stowers. Along with DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, and Saquon Barkley, there are weapons around Jalen Hurts. Can new Offensive Coordinator Sean Manion get it done? That's the hope for the Eagles.
Prediction: The Eagles will win 10 or 11 games and be in the playoff mix again.

Dallas Cowboys (7-9-1)
About: The Cowboys were second in the NFC East and, for a while, were in the playoff mix. But the team couldn't get enough on defense and win consistently enough to get it done. The Cowboys have the pieces on offense: Dak Prescott, Javonte Williams, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Jake Ferguson. This off-season, they worked on the defense. The team added Caleb Downs in the draft and P.J. Locke in free agency at safety, and recently added Von Miller. Will it be enough to make a difference? The Cowboys have talent if they can put it all together.
Prediction: It's hard to bet on the Cowboys given the past 30 years. And yet, I like this roster and its potential. I think they'll be in the mix for the NFC East.

Washington Commanders (5-12)
About: The wheels fell off the bus for the Commanders in 2025. After making the NFC Championship Game the year prior, this team couldn't get wins and couldn't stay healthy. That was a problem as they drifted near the bottom of the league. It was an uneven off-season, too. The team brought in a few options at running back, but none feels like a game-changer. The Commanders added Stefon Diggs and Chig Okonkwo to the passing game, but will it be enough. Can Daniels be healthy? We've seen the good Commanders and bad Commanders under Dan Quinn, I think this year will be somewhere in between.
Prediction: The Commanders win between seven and nine games and fall just short of the playoffs.

New York Giants (4-13)
About: The Giants were a train wreck in 2025, which led to Brian Daboll being shown the door. Now John Harbaugh is the head coach and the team has talent, but I greatly question the offensive coaching staff assembled. It's not confidence-inspiring. Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo remain health risks, while Malik Nabers still isn't healthy. That leaves a lot of questions on offense and a wide range of potential outcomes for this team.
Prediction: I still think the Giants are the worst team in the NFC East. I see them between four and seven wins, out of the playoffs.

  It was an interesting week for new releases in theaters. Below is my take on the two big theatrical films from the weekend.   It was a solid week for new releases, including my favorite animated film of the year. You can keep up with everything I’m watching by following me on Letterboxd @knighthawk7734.  Brats (Hulu) Synopsis : From Andrew McCarthy, this new documentary takes a look at the infamous Brat Pack. The film features interviews with the members as they look back at the title that branded them and helped define some of their career. As a member of the group, McCarthy brings a unique perspective. Often the interviews, with actors such as Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Timothy Hutton, and Demi Moore, among others, feels more like old friends catching up. There’s a sweetness and a lightness to the documentary that is incredibly appealing. The film does a good job of capturing the highs and lows, and helping these actors and actresses give an account of what the pressure of that time—and these high-profile films—meant in their lives and their careers.   It’s Christmas week, and you might find yourself looking for some distractions in the form of new shows to check out. But which are worth checking out? Let this weekly post be your guide as I review the pilot and second episode of new shows this Fall. Don’t see a new show listed below? Check previous weeks. Tuesdays: American Auto, Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC (Premiered December 13) About: A lot was made of the fact NBC, former home of Must-See TV, launched a schedule this Fall with no sitcoms. NBC isn’t planning to do the same in the winter, and they got a jump start to close the year, offering two-episode previews of a pair of new sitcoms that will begin their normal runs in January. The first, American Auto , comes from Superstore creator Justin Spitzer and centers on a new CEO (Ana Gasteyer) at a car company.
