Upcoming Releases, October 2026


 October is here, bringing with it a host of interesting and seasonal releases. Below is the new films coming this October.

Friday, October 2:
* Verity (Theaters): This is the latest Colleen Hoover adaptation, but it's not what you're thinking. This is more of a horror story with Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson. Consider me intrigued.

*Digger (Theaters): A big starring vehicle for Tom Cruise with a loaded cast. It's hard to get a read on the film which will either be a masterpiece or an epic disaster. Either way, it will be unique!

*Beware Boiuna (Theaters): This is a big horror movie centered on a big snake. It looks sufficiently creepy.

*Rolling Loud: The Movie (Theaters): Owen Wilson tries to be the cool dad and take his son to a music festival only for things to spiral out of control. Looks like it could be some funny counter-programming.

*The Last First: Winter K2 (Apple TV): This new documentary debuted at Sundance. Now it's getting a streaming release for Apple.

Friday, October 9:
*The Social Reckoning (Theaters): This new film is written and directed by Aaron Sorkin as a follow up to the Social Network. Will it have that kind of power? Hard to say, but I'm intrigued.

*Other Mommy (Theaters): A terrifying new horror film starring Jessica Chastain. The trailers are deeply unsettling and the film will be, too.

*The Beast (Theaters): A new action film from Renny Harlin. This one finds Samuel L. Jackson playing the President in peril. Should be good for fans of the genre.

*Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother (Theaters): This one starring Mahershala Ali finally gets an expansion. I think it could be an awards season player.

*Animals (Netflix/Theaters): This drops in theaters and streams the same day. It stars Ben Affleck and is centered around a kidnapping of a politicians child. There's some intrigue here.

*Matchbox: The Movie (Apple TV): This is the new action film starring John Cena. It gets a streaming release, giving Apple a high-profile project to compete in a crowded month.

Wednesday, October 14:
*Love of Your Life (Prime Video): Prime Video is really hitting well with romance films on the service. This looks like another that could draw an audience with a loaded cast led by Margaret Qualley.

Friday, October 16:
*Whalefall (Theaters): It's a terrifying concept as a man (Austin Abrams) is swallowed by a whale. This could be one of the most intriguing films of the Fall.

*Street Fighter (Theaters): This is a new adaptation of the popular game. This one looks to have a lot of action and should draw an audience.

*Musk (Theaters): This is a long documentary feature on Elon Musk. It played festivals and got some positive reviews, but it's quite long.

*Sense and Sensibility (Theaters): This is a new version of the classic novel. This one is led by Daisy Edgar-Jones and looks like it should be a fun take for the romantic set.

*Sacrifice (Netflix): This is a new drama on Netflix starring Anya Taylor-Joy as an Eco warrior. This looks like an interesting streaming option.

*Tenzing (Apple TV): Capping a huge month for the streamer is this biopic which stars Tom Hiddleston and focuses on the famous mountaineer. This looks like an inspiring tale.

*Masterplan (Prime Video): This is an acton/heist film for Prime Video. It's the streamers second release of the week and looks like a fun film led by Stanley Tucci.

Friday, October 23:
*Clayface (Theaters): This is the next big swing from D.C. It's a big film built around a minor villain in the Batman universe. I'm on the fence, but they're making a big horror swing here.

*Wildwood (Theaters): This is an epic, animated film. It looks like it will be a really fun ride.

*You Can See Everything (Theaters): This is the new documentary from Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. It has the potential to be one of the craziest and biggest films of the Fall.

Friday, October 30:
*Wicker (Theaters): A wild love story starring Olivia Coleman. Interesting this drops on Halloween weekend.

*Christmas at the Kringles (Theaters): It's a Christmas film. It's a horror movie. It drops for Halloween weekend. There will be an audience.

You can keep up with everything I’m watching by following me on Letterboxd @knighthawk7734.  Brats (Hulu) Synopsis : From Andrew McCarthy, this new documentary takes a look at the infamous Brat Pack. The film features interviews with the members as they look back at the title that branded them and helped define some of their career. As a member of the group, McCarthy brings a unique perspective. Often the interviews, with actors such as Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Timothy Hutton, and Demi Moore, among others, feels more like old friends catching up. There’s a sweetness and a lightness to the documentary that is incredibly appealing.   It’s Christmas week, and you might find yourself looking for some distractions in the form of new shows to check out. But which are worth checking out? Let this weekly post be your guide as I review the pilot and second episode of new shows this Fall. Don’t see a new show listed below? Check previous weeks. Tuesdays: American Auto, Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC (Premiered December 13) About: A lot was made of the fact NBC, former home of Must-See TV, launched a schedule this Fall with no sitcoms. NBC isn’t planning to do the same in the winter, and they got a jump start to close the year, offering two-episode previews of a pair of new sitcoms that will begin their normal runs in January. The first, American Auto , comes from Superstore creator Justin Spitzer and centers on a new CEO (Ana Gasteyer) at a car company.   It was an interesting week for new releases in theaters. Below is my take on the two big theatrical films from the weekend. You can keep up with everything I’m watching by following me on Letterboxd @knighthawk7734. Boy Kills World (Theaters) Starring : Bill Skarsgard, Jessica Rothe, Famke Janssen, Brett Gellman, and Michelle Dockery Synopsis : We have seen a lot of action films this year. Many have featured violent sequences, but some have been more artful than others. The new film, Boy Kills World, provides plenty of violence. It’s right there in the title. But where it falls short is in building something compelling beyond the killing spree. We’re introduced to a Boy (Skarsgard) early in the film. He tells us that his world is ruled by the Van Der Koy family, whose head, Hilda (Janssen) keeps the people in line through an annual Culling, where she kills “enemies.” Our protagonist’s mother and sister were among her victims.
