2019 Broncos' Season, Regular Season Roster

Image
It was a furious week as the Broncos cut down from 90 to 53, then made a flurry of other moves. That includes putting Drew Lock, Theo Riddick and Jake Butt on IR. Below is the the roster we're going into the season with, beginning on Monday night in Oakland, and a look at the players. Quarterback: (2) * Joe Flacco * Brandon Allen About: Lock is on IR, and Flacco is the starter. While Brett Rypien went to the Practice Squad, it was pretty clear that Kevin Hogan wasn't rock solid as a back up, and he was released. Instead, the Broncos went and claimed Allen, who had been with the Rams. Hopefully he'll be able to do the job, but more importantly we have to hope Flacco stays healthy and is effective. Running Backs: (4) * Phillip Lindsay * Royce Freeman * Devontae Booker * Andy Janovich About: Janovich is injured and out a few weeks, but the Broncos have the three backs that carried them through last year. That's the good news. They also have tight end Andrew Beck, p...

Fantasy Movie League: The Killer Clown is Back

Image
IT is a big weekend. And, yes, the capitals are intentional because of the lone new release this week, one that will leave audiences that come in droves terrified of clowns. It’s the first weekend of the new Fall season, and IT, Chapter 2 is in theaters. Plus, the NFL begins its 100th season tonight. It is, indeed, a big weekend. But more on that in a minute. Last week, to close out the season, I bet on Good Boys as a big money anchor, but I seated two screens of Spider-Man Far From Home as well. Spider-Man slung his way to Best Value, while Good Boys was merely the fourth best value on the list, so I missed out on a Perfect Cineplex. I still finished on a strong run to end the summer season, and I’m hoping to keep it going in the Fall. And that means mastering the toughest trick in the game, daily scoring. IT is the biggest and only new release, but what combination will serve me best? That’s the question. As always, if you think you’re better at the game than me, I encou...

It's time again for another NFL Season! And just as I have the past few years, I'll be making picks each week, as will Lindsay. And as a bonus, I'll pick the spread games, too. NFL Preview, Prediction Time

Image
Those who listen to my podcasting work got to hear these last night (Tuesday) when the preview dropped, but below is my official take on each division, the playoffs and award winners. With the NFL season kicking off on Thursday, it's time to get hyped for a new season! AFC AFC East Patriots: 12-4 Jets: 10-6 Bills: 4-12 Dolphins: 2-14 About : The Patriots are still the class of the division, but I think the Jets take a bit step up this year. The Bills have talent, but I don't like their schedule and the Dolphins figure to be one of the worst teams in the league. AFC North: Steelers: 10-6 Browns: 10-6 Ravens: 9-7 Bengals: 3-13 About: This is an incredibly tough division outside of the Bengals, who I think will struggle. I think the Steelers will win thanks to a tie-breaker, but both the Steelers and Browns make the playoffs. AFC South: Texans: 9-7 Jaguars: 8-8 Colts: 7-9 Titans: 7-9 About: The toughest of all eight divisions to forecast, but I think the Texans sneak in...

Summer TV Roundup, Week 18

Image
Labor Day is the unofficial end to summer, and is the end of course this weekend is the end of our new summer TV content. While the new Fall Season on network is a few weeks away, fret not friends, there is new original Fall content beginning as early as tomorrow... But for now, we look at the last of the new shows for summer. In these weekly posts I look at the Pilot and Second Episode of new original scripted (and sometimes unscripted) shows this Summer. Don't see a new show listed below? Check previous weeks. Streaming Series: The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Now Streaming on Netflix (Premiered August 30) About: For Labor Day weekend Netflix and Amazon offered original series, hoping to grab the streaming crowd for the long weekend. For Netflix, that came in the form of puppets with a spectacular voice case. Jim Henson released "The Dark Crystal" as a film in 1982 and it has had a cult following ever since. Now, more than 30 years later, this prequel series h...

Faith in Film, Week 2

Image
For our second week, we're diving into one of King's stories that was turned into a film. While most people think of him as the Master of Horror, King's work is much broader than that, as we discussed the first week. So it makes sense we'd be taking on one of his more family-friendly stories. "Stand By Me," released in 1986 and directed by Rob Reiner, is the story of four boys who take a journey of self discovery that surrounds a field trip to see a dead body. While that might sound like a scary set up, the story is anything but a horror tale. It's based on the Novella "The Body," which is found in the collection "Different Seasons." It's set in the Summer of 1960 in Castle Rock, Maine. Except that the movie made a few changes. While the Novella takes place in the summer of 1960, the film moved the action up to 1959. Another change is the setting. As we talked about last week, Stephen King was born in Maine and most of his st...

Upcoming Releases—September 2019

Image
Summer has come and gone, and Fall is upon us. At the movies, that means a change of season. August brought a flood of new releases, mostly not memorable or worth checking out but dumped in the Dog Days of Summer. September offers fewer releases, and starts to turn the corner toward more meaningful films. We're not totally there yet, but the time is coming. Friday, September 6: IT Chapter 2 —When the first IT was released, it was a huge Box Office event, one that stretched for months. I expect much the same here as Stephen King's classic tale concludes. Satanic Panic —Look, they can't all be winners. This one is about a pizza girl who encounters a group of satanists looking for a virgin sacrifice. This "comedy" looks like one you can safely miss at theaters. Friday, September 13: Hustlers —This one boasts a great cast, including Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu and Cardi B, and features an interesting story about a group of strippers who turn the tables on so...
