Fantasy Goats

My first season of fantasy football is coming to an end. I called my team Bronco Glory, finished as the No. 2 seed and advanced to the playoffs. I figured at least on Bronco team deserved a short at glory this season.

Then the playoff week happened. If my miraculous Michael Vick cover was the highlight of the fantasy season, last night was the low point. I have a tendency to over analyze to the point of going against my gut instincts. This was one of those weeks.

I looked at my players, looked at their games, read every piece of news about them, and decided I needed to make some strategic benchings. Good call....

As I looked on in horror, my fantasy starters fell face first to the turf (metaphorically speaking). Of course part of that is because I started way too many real life Denver Broncos, a team that got crushed in Arizona. So I had accepted that I would trail heading into the second week of the playoffs.

Then, as I watched the games last night, I realized how bad my decision-making had been. Three players — Andre Johnson, Derek Mason, and Brandon Jacobs, went off last night, posting 26, 19, and 19 points respectively. I have all three on my team. I also had all three on the bench. So while Matt Forte (5 pts), Brandon Lloyd (3 pts) and Miles Austin (4 pts) started for me, last night's heroes rode the pine.

When I checked my lineup this morning, the true measure of my error set in. I trail 97-70 heading into week 2. The worst part is this total — my fantasy starters, 70 points; my bench players, 80 points.

I guess the lesson is clear, don't be afraid to follow your instincts.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need.
