Spring TV Roundup, Week 7

Image
We’ve passed Memorial Day and May is leaving after today. Summer is here, but before we turn the page toward all summer has for us, let’s reflect on the last week of new shows this Spring. It was a quieter week than we’ve seen, due in large part to the holiday, but we still got one of the most hotly anticipated shows of the year. Did it live up to the hype? Let this weekly post be your guide as I look at the pilot and second episode of new scripted series this Spring. Don’t see a new show listed below? Check previous weeks. Fridays: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Fridays on Disney+ (Premiered May 27) About: Fans had to wait a little longer but got a full two-episode debut of the new show centered on the aging Jedi Master and set between Episode III and Episode IV. This is a period of time that’s intrigued fans, many of whom were psyched to get to see some of the gaps filled in. This takes place 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith . Anakin Skywalker is now Darth Vader and the Empir

Dynasty TE Rankings, Post Draft

Image
The 2022 NFL Draft has come and gone, and with it we’ve seen where the Class of 2022 will play and how that figures to impact rosters. As draft season is beginning, it’s the ideal time to look at some updated positional rankings. Mondays throughout May I’ll be offering my revised dynasty positional rankings, concluding today with tight ends. What can you say about tight end? Prior to last season, it was about getting one of the Top 3 or just waiting and playing roulette. But the position seemed to get stronger in 2021. Still, instead of traditional tiers, I’m going to do something fun here. So, sit back, relax and, hopefully, laugh. The Elite: (TE1-TE6) ·        Mark Andrews ·        Kyle Pitts ·        T.J. Hockenson ·        George Kittle ·        Travis Kelce ·        Darren Waller About: If I have one of these six, I feel pretty good for the next few years. Andrews and Pitts are the big prizes, while Hockenson is on Detroit, Kittle struggles to stay on the fiel

Upcoming Releases, June 2022

Image
We're through May and June is upon us, with the big summer blockbusters continuing to fly fast and furiously, along with other films. Here's a look at what to expect for the month of June! Friday, June 3: Interceptor (Netflix): Elsa Pataky takes the lead here as a tough-as-nails Army Captain on a mission to stop a coordinated attack. Netflix has done well with action films and this is perfectly timed for the summer season. Fire Island (Hulu): If action isn't your thing, how about a romance? This film on Hulu is a modern day romance inspired by Pride and Prejudice .  Wednesday, June 8: Hustle (Netflix): The latest from Adam Sandler finds him as a down-on-his-luck basketball scout. Sandler has done well in his partnership with Netflix, so this will no doubt please his fans. This also looks like a bit of a more serious film, one that could continue to show Sandler's range. Friday, June 10: Jurassic World: Dominion (Theaters): This is the sixth film in the Jurassic f

Best of the Small Screen: Network Dramas, No. 1

Welcome to this year's exploration of TV, the Best of the Small Screen. Throughout the year I'll be looking at my favorite shows in four categories: Network Sitcoms, Network Dramas, Cable Series and Streaming Series. We'll cap the exploration with my Top 10 shows of all time regardless of format. Check back each Saturday for another installment in the countdown! President Josiah Bartlett:   "We hold these truths to be self-evident," they said, "that all men are created equal." Strange as it may seem, that was the first time in history that anyone had ever bothered to write that down. Decisions are made by those who show up. The West Wing (1999-2006) Starring: Martin Sheen, Bradley Whitford, Allison Janney, Richard Schiff, John Spencer, Rob Lowe, Janell Maloney, Dule Hill, Joshua Malina, Stockard Channing, Mary McCormick, and Jimmy Smits Favorite Episodes: "Pilot," Episode 1.01; "Mr. Willis of Ohio," Episode 1.07; "In Excelsis

Favorite Films of All Time, No. 31

Image
In 2022 I'm revisiting my favorite films of all time, doing a countdown of the Top 50 throughout the year. Check back each Friday for the latest installment in the countdown of films, which include releases through 2019. Agree? Disagree? Have a thought on the choice? Be sure to share in the comments below! Benoit Blanc :  But the complexity and the gray lie not in the truth but what you do with the truth once you have it. Knives Out (2019) Starring : Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Ana de Armas, Christopher Plummer, LaKeith Stanfield, and Katherine Langford Director : Rian Johnson About : Johnson makes an appearance on this list. It's his first, but it won't be his last. I also know that there are some reading here that would call this a reach. I get it. But film is a subjective experience. And when I saw Knives Out, a film I ended up seeing three times in theaters, I was smitten. I loved the dialogue and the story

2022 Broncos' Season, Linebackers

Image
Continuing my look at position groups as we go through the off-season, today I'm looking at linebackers. Below is who is on the roster and the biggest questions remaining! Linebackers On the Roster : Randy Gregory, Bradley Chubb, Baron Browning, Josey Jewell, Nik Bonitto, Christopher Allen, Jonathan Cooper, Malik Reed, Justin Strnad, Alex Singleton, Jonas Griffith, Barrington Wade, Aaron Patrick, Kadofi Wright, and Kana'i Mauga About : There are a lot of linebackers on the roster right now and a lot of talent. In the 3-4 defense, the linebackers are the beating heart. They provide the teeth of the pass rush on the outside, run stuffing up the middle and some pass defense. A lot will be asked of this group, which is why the Broncos made some moves here this off-season. Chubb, Cooper and Reed return on the outside, Browning, Jewell and Strnad all had a piece of the inside. The team also has a Special Teams specialist in Griffith. The Broncos added Singleton and Gregory in free

Chip ‘N Dale: Rescue Rangers (Disney +) Starring : Andy Samberg, John Mulaney, Kiki Layne, Will Arnett, Eric Bana, and J.K. Simmons Synopsis : When I was a kid, I loved the Disney block of afternoon cartoons. There was Darkwing Duck , Tail Spin , Duck Tales and, of course, Chip ‘N Dale: Rescue Rangers . Turns out I wasn’t the only one that loved those shows. Now, for those of us who are old enough to remember, comes the reunion/re-boot film we never knew we always needed. This one finds Chip (Mulaney) and Dale (Samberg) trying to build a life in the aftermath of fame. They’ve had a falling out after the end of their show. Now, fortune has brought them back together as they try to

Spring TV Roundup, Week 6

Spring is quickly turning into Summer… most places anyway. Here in Colorado, we got about a foot of snow on Friday, which made for a cozy weekend of staying in doors and checking out all my options. If you, too, find yourself looking to spend some time on the couch, you might be wondering what of these new series is worth your time. Let this weekly post be your guide as I look at the pilot and second episode of new scripted, and some unscripted, series this Spring. Don’t see a new show listed below? Check previous weeks. Mondays: Prehistoric Planet, Now Streaming on Apple TV+ (Premiered May 23) About : This new series looks at our prehistoric past. Most famously, he did this through the series Planet Earth, which continues to be a favorite long after it originally aired. Now, he’s doing it again through a five-part mini-series for Apple TV+ that launched Monday and airs daily through this week. Th

Dynasty WR Rankings, Post-Draft

The 2022 NFL Draft has come and gone, and with it we’ve seen where the Class of 2022 will play and how that figures to impact rosters. As draft season is beginning, it’s the ideal time to look at some updated positional rankings. Mondays throughout May I’ll be offering my revised dynasty positional rankings, continuing today with wide receivers. As we’re approaching the season, I’m expanding the number of players I consider. For receivers, I’ll be looking at my Top 60 at the position, divided into tiers—WR1s, WR2s, WR3s, WR4s and WR5s. WR1s: (WR1-WR12) ·        Justin Jefferson ·        Ja’Marr Chase ·        Cooper Kupp ·        Davante Adams ·        CeeDee Lamb ·        Deebo Samuel ·        Stefon Diggs ·        Terry McLaurin ·        A.J. Brown ·        Chris Godwin ·        Jaylen Waddle ·        Keenan Allen About : For receivers it wasn’t the draft so much as all the wild off-season trades that have shaken up the position. I dropped Brown a coup
