Gifts of the Spirit

This look at the Apostles Creed has been a good chance to think about what lies at the heart of our faith. This final week has been an interesting time to reflect on the Holy Spirit.

Graham talked about the fact that people don't spend a lot of time thinking about the Holy Spirit. Nicky Gumbel, who teaches the Alpha Course, said He's been ignored an misunderstood. In fact, of the 15 Alpha sessions, three are devoted to the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. That's 20 percent of the course.

At first I wondered why. Then it occurred to me, it's because we spend so little time thinking about the Holy Spirit and what the Holy Spirit does. It's important to remember that the Holy Spirit has been there from the beginning and is a big part of the trinity.

I'll admit, I don't often think about the Holy Spirit. I was struck, in thinking about this topic, by the words of Genesis 1:2, which says, "Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”

And that same, powerful spirit of God is within all of us who put our faith in Jesus Christ. That's a pretty awesome thought.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need.
