He Is Risen!

On this special day, we celebrate the quintessential piece of the Christian faith, Jesus' triumph over death. It's hard to imagine what it would have been like to have arrived at that empty tomb, or to have been like Mary and seen Jesus' face again.

Luke 24:1-8 says, "On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words."

Today, it's important to remember not only that the tomb is empty, that Jesus conquered death, but that he sacrificed everything for us.

I leave you with lyrics to one of my favorite songs this time of year, "Christ is Risen" by Matt Maher.

Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake, come and rise up from the grave
Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with Him again
Come awake, come awake, come and rise up from the grave

Oh death, where is your sting?
Oh hell, where is your victory?
Oh church, come stand in the light. The glory of God has defeated the night.
Singing oh death, where is your sting?
Oh hell, where is your victory?
Oh church, some stand in the light. Our God is not dead, He's Alive! He's Alive!
