Quietly Perfect

This has been an up and down football season in a lot of ways. Many teams that were predicted to get off to a great start have faltered. Many predicted to be champions have fallen by the way side. Then there are the teams that have rallied.

I love the Denver Broncos, but even I have been surprised, in some ways, by how quickly they've risen from an average team to a contender. The league is all about Tim Tebow now because of his incredible run and, for the first time in years, I'm legitimately excited to see my team on Sundays.

There have been other great stories. The 49ers have risen under coach Jim Harbaugh, and the Houston Texans, despite a gaggle of injuries, continue to quietly be among the AFC leaders. The usual suspects — New Orleans, New England, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore — all seem to be in the playoff/title hunt as well.

Meanwhile, teams like the Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers have fallen off the map. Teams like the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, and Oakland Raiders are constantly up and down.

Yet, through all that, there has been just one constant — the Green Bay Packers. Last year, despite a ton of injuries, the Packers rallied to sneak into the playoffs and cruised through four straight impressive victories to win the Super Bowl title.

Heading into this season, it seemed as if the Packers would, actually, be better than last year, especially if they stayed healthy. If there was anything that seemed like a sure lock, it was that that Packers would be the best defending champion in years. Fourteen weeks later, that has been proven correct.

There has only been one team that's been consistent this year, and that's the Packers. Aaron Rogers looks like the clear cut MVP, and even though hardly anyone seems to be talking about it, the Packers look to have an easy path to 16-0. In fact, even more so than the 2007 Patriots, it seems like the Packers could be the first team to go 19-0.

While other teams may have dominated the headlines, it's only the Packers that have dominated each week on the field. It's hard to imagine that won't continue through the first Sunday in February.
