Golden Globe Picks

Sunday night marks the jump off of the movie award season with The Golden Globes. It's the biggest party, and also the most unpredictable of awards. My sense is they spread the love around. Below are my picks of who Will Win.

Best Picture — Drama: 12 Years A Slave. I think this was the most powerful film of the year and will earn the top prize.

Best Picture — Musical/Comedy: American Hustle. A lot has been made of the fact the five nominees here don't really seem to fit. That being said, I think "American Hustle" gets the nod.

Best Actor — Drama: Matthew McConaughey, "Dallas Buyers Club." A great year for McConaughey, and I think he gets recognized for his work here.

Best Actress — Drama: Sandra Bullock, "Gravity." In keeping with the theme that this awards will spread the love around, I give it to Bullock, who is among the favorites for the Academy Awards.

Best Actor — Musical/Comedy: Leonardo DiCaprio, "The Wolf of Wall Street." DiCaprio has gotten some of his best reviews for the part of Jordan Belfort, and the Globes love movie stars.

Best Actress — Musical/Comedy: Meryl Streep, "August: Osage County." This is a tough movie to watch, due in large part to Streep's incredible and stomach churning work here.

Best Supporting Actor: Jared Leto, "Dallas Buyers Club." A lot of worthy choices, but I think Leto gets the nod here.

Best Supporting Actress: Lupita Nyong'o, "12 Years A Slave." This is more of a gut feeling.

Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron, "Gravity." I think this was the most stunning achievement in visual storytelling, and perhaps the most daring.

Best Screenplay: David O. Russell, "American Hustle." I think this is another space where "American Hustle" gets some recognition.

Best Original Song: "Please Mr. Kennedy," "Inside Llewyn Davis." It may not have been the best film, but it had the best music.

Best Original Score: Hans Zimmer, "12 Years A Slave." This is a toss up category to me.

Best Animated Film: Frozen. This has been the most talked about and touted of the animated films.

Best Foreign Language Film: Blue Is The Warmest Color. I think this film has gotten the most hype and press.

Best TV Series — Drama: Breaking Bad. It's the final year, and it will win a lot of awards.

Best TV Series — Comedy: Girls. This is still the belle of the ball among critics.

Best TV Mini Series or Motion Picture: Behind the Candelabra. This was a high profile project that was very popular with critics.

Best Actor — TV Drama: Kevin Spacey, "House of Cards." I think "House of Cards" was one of the year's best.

Best Actress — TV Drama: Kerry Washington, "Scandal." "Scandal" is the hot show right now, and I think the Globes will recognize that.

Best Actor — TV Comedy: Jason Bateman, "Arrested Development." This is a critical favorite.

Best Actress — TV Comedy: Julia Louis Dreyfuss, "VEEP." I think "VEEP" is the funniest show on TV.

Best Actor — Mini Series or Motion Picture: Michael Douglas, "Behind the Candelabra." He gave a great performance in a very different sort of role.

Best Actress — Mini Series or Motion Picture: Jessica Lange, "American Horror Story." The "American Horror Story" franchise is popular, and Lange is the crown jewel on the show.

Best Supporting Actor — TV: Aaron Paul, "Breaking Bad." It is the big year for "Breaking Bad."

Best Supporting Actress — TV: Hayden Panettiere, "Nashville." Just a shot in the dark here.
