Upcoming Releases — April

Here's a look at the movies coming to a theater near you in April. Summer's almost here, friends.

Friday, April 4:
Captain America: Winter Soldier — So far the second phase of Marvel's Avengers has been pretty amazing. I am excited to see what this sequel for Captain America brings, but by all accounts it looks great. My only question is why it's in April rather than summer…

Dom Hemingway — This film opens in limited release on April 4 and makes its way to theaters nationwide throughout the month. It stars Jude Law and the trailer is pretty funny. This could be an amusing indie comedy.

Friday, April 11:
Draft Day — Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner star in this film about an embattled general manager heading into the NFL Draft. Since the real draft moved to May, this movie will have to tide over NFL fans. It also looks pretty interesting.

Rio 2 — This is a movie for the kiddos. I never saw the original "Rio," but it did quite well with younger viewers. This should, too.

Oculus — This is some kind of thriller/horror film. The description is about proving the supernatural is behind a murder. The trailer is creepy without being too specific. Who knows what to make of this.

Wednesday, April 16:
Heaven Is For Real — Just in time for Holy Week we get the release of the movie based on the memoir by Todd Burpo. It's about the tragedy that happened with his son, and his belief that his son visited Heaven and returned. I was frustrated by the book and don't know what to think of the movie. It will likely bring in the Evangelical crowd.

Thursday, April 17:
Transcendence — This movie comes from exceptional cinematographer Wally Pfister in his directorial debut, and has a great cast. Johnny Depp headlines, but it's the creepy story in this one that will bring people out. No doubt this will make you reconsider technology.

Friday, April 18:
A Haunted House 2 — This sequel starring Marlon Wayans was originally slatted for a March 28 release but now has pushed to Holy Week. This will be alternative programming for those that don't want to think on Good Friday.

Bears — Just in time for Earth Day we get the latest, cuddly Disney Nature documentary. This time about bears!

Friday, April 25:
The Other Woman — This is a film about a wife, a mistress, and a girlfriend who take revenge on the philandering man who's leading them all astray. It stars Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton. Must be spring…

The Quiet Ones — This is a mildly intriguing horror film about sharp students experimenting in reckless ways.

Brick Mansions — It was sad when Paul Walker died unexpectedly last year. It leaves a lot of questions about the "Fast and Furious" franchise, and a collection of "B" action films like "Brick Mansions" that are getting wider releases after his death. This doesn't look good, but I bet a lot of Walker fans flock to see it.
