Mile High Memories

Since I was little, my dad and I have watched the Denver Broncos. I don't know why I was first drawn to them, though my mom thinks it was the orange uniforms. That's probably it. But either way, they've been a lifelong obsession.

Almost since that time, my dad and I have talked about getting to see the Broncos together at Mile High Stadium. I've now been to the Stadium three times, and each has been memorable. The first year we moved, Lindsay and I took the stadium tour. There was no game, but I got to tough the field.

Last summer, Lindsay and I took the plunge and went to a game. Being in the seats, seeing the Broncos on the field, and being surrounded by a throng of fans was overwhelming. I will probably always treasure that memory — it was the first NFL game for Lindsay and for me, and we did it together.

Saturday was something different. My dad moved to Colorado on February 1, just in time for the Super Bowl that shall not be named. Now, six months later, we finally got to live out our dream and attend a Broncos' game in person. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if the team won.

Still, there are many moments I'll never forget.

* Pulling up at our hotel, starring at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, it was hard not to get emotional. I think dad and I both felt it, sitting there looking at the stadium a mere five minutes walk from our hotel.

* Walking around the stadium — to get to the stadium store — and ending up at the walk of fame was incredible. Dad and mom frequently stopped to take pictures, and to take it all in. It was incredible, and the atmosphere was electric.

* Lindsay met Peyton Manning, and got an autographed ball. It was a joyous moment, and might be the moment I was most proud of her. Peyton is — by far — her favorite player. Getting his autograph was a big deal to her, and I was proud to see her get it.

* The pre game introductions, skydivers, and national anthem. Packed in the stands with thousands of other fans, it was electric.

*And, finally, the big plays at the end of the half. Manning connected with Emmanuel Sanders on a pair of huge touchdown throws in the final two minutes. The crowd went wild. We were on our feet, and both of us were soaking it in. It was a beautiful moment, and one I'll treasure forever.
