Upcoming Releases — November

October is floating out the door in a haze of costumes and sugar tonight. But never fear, November is here. It has two of the most anticipated films of the year — Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" and the next installment in the "Hunger Games" series. Time to get excited.

Friday, November 7:
Interstellar — This is the latest from Christopher Nolan, and stars Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, among others. It looks like a fascinating film that tackles a number of different issues, including our impending environmental crisis and time travel. I'm all in on this movie.

Big Hero 6 — This is the latest animated film, this one based on a Marvel property. It looks like it will appeal to kids, but I'm not sure it's got a wide ranging audience.

Jessabelle — Out monthly horror movie release. Why? Because these movies are cheap to produce and usually turn a profit.

The Theory of Everything (Limited) — This is a biopic on Stephen Hawking. It looks like a fantastic drama, and a movie that will compete during awards season.

Friday, November 14:
Beyond the Lights — This is the story of a troubled musician, dogged by her overbearing parent, who might have found salvation through love. It comes from the people behind "Love and Basketball."

Foxcatcher — This might be the movie that launches Steve Carell as a serious Oscar contender. He looks great in this dark biopic from "Capote" director Bennett Miller. Channing Tatum also looks great here. This will be a strong Oscar contender.

Rosewater — This is the directorial debut of Jon Stewart, and it's a passion project. The film is based on the real events of Maziar Bahari, who was imprisoned in Iran as a spy after appear on "The Daily Show." I am excited to see what Stewart does with this.

Dumb and Dumber to — The long gestating sequel to the classic 1990s comedy hit starring Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey. Initially I was skeptical about this whole idea, but the trailer sort of won me over. Those guys look like they're having fun, let's just hope that translates to the screen.

Friday, November 21:
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part One — This is the first half of the conclusion to the "Hunger Games" franchise. This will be epic. Also one of the last performances from Philip Seymour Hoffman. These movies are great, and I can't wait to see how it ends.

Wednesday, November 26:
The Penguins of Madagascar — What could be better over a long Thanksgiving weekend than a kids movie based on the Penguins from the "Madagascar" movies? Well, that's what the hope is with this movie, anyway.

Horrible Bosses 2 — The initial film "Horrible Bosses" was a fine comedy, but I didn't think anyone was clamoring for a sequel. That being said, the first movie was fun and this one looks like it will be fun, too. And, after all the turkey, shopping, and football has you worn down, this could be a great weekend escape.
