Championship Games in review



The Super Bowl matchup is set — The New England Patriots will meet the Seattle Seahawks in the desert in Arizona. But how each team got there was a very different kind of journey.

The Seahawks won in thrilling fashion, despite setting themselves some huge obstacles. The team turned the ball over five times, trailed 16-0 at the half, and was down two touchdowns with three minutes left. But, as always, the Seahawks found a way, breaking the hearts of Green Bay fans with a recovered onside kick and a 35-yard bomb in overtime.

New England, on the other hand, dominated for 60 minutes, racking up a 45-7 win over the Colts to go to the sixth Super Bowl of the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era. But, like many things in the era, it's marred with a bit of controversy. Today the NFL announced it is investigating the Patriots for deflating balls on Sunday, possibly to gain a competitive advantage.

If the Patriots are found guilty — and that seems like a big If at this point — it would result in a fine and loss of draft picks, as well as another black mark for the administration responsible for Spygate. But that being said, it's hard to imagine that was the difference in a 38-point win. The Patriots were the better team, and they will have a chance to go for a fourth Super Bowl title in two weeks.

The game is being billed as a matchup of the best offense (Patriots) versus the best defense (Seahawks), just like last year's game. And like last year, offense is favored in Las Vegas. Still, it's hard to imagine another 43-8 blowout.

I could see this game going in a number of ways, and I will wait a bit to make my picks, but to this point it looks like quite a matchup.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need.
