Best Picture Nominees — Birdman


The Academy Awards are just over a week away. Today I continue my look at Best Picture Nominees with one of the front-runners.

Nominated For: Best Picture, Best Actor (Michael Keaton), Best Supporting Actor (Edward Norton), Best Supporting Actress (Emma Stone), Best Director (Alejandro González Iñárritu), Best Original Screenplay (Alejandro González Iñárritu, Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, Armando Bo); Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing
About: "Birdman" has been on the top of a lot of Best film lists, and it's earned a gaggle of nominations and trophies this awards season. It's seen as a front-runner for Best Picture, too, which would be quite a feat. Typically the Best Picture winner also wins Best Film Editing. If "Birdman" wins, that won't happen because it's not nominated in that category. However it's easy to see the film bringing home several awards even if it doesn't win Best Picture. Inarritu has a shot at Best Director, while Keaton is among the front-runners for Best Actor. The film also has a good chance at winning Best Original Screenplay. As a prestige film nominated in the sound categories, it might be a trendy choice there, too. Personally, I didn't love the story here, which broke down for me in the third act. But the performances were incredible, and it was a very original concept. I could see it doing well on Awards night.
Rating: R for language throughout, some sexual content and brief violence.
Verdict: Three stars out of four.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need.
