2015 Broncos Season — Preseason, Week 2

Preseason Week 2: Broncos 14, Houston Texans 10
Preseason Record: 2-0 (0-0 Home)
Key Play: In the fourth quarter, trailing 10-7 with time winding down, quarterback Trevor Siemian led the Broncos on a drive. He connected with receiver Corbin Louks on a 26-yard touchdown strike to give the Broncos a 14-10 lead, the final margin.

Recap: Preseason is a time when you're hoping to see how players fare, work on weak spots, prepare for the season, and try not to get anyone injured. From that standpoint, the Broncos were mostly successful on Saturday night. It was a little troubling to see Shane Ray helped off the field, but let's hope it's not too series. It was a little disappointing to see that the first team offense struggled to move the ball and didn't score any points. But they'll get there. And Emmanuel Sanders is still missing, so there's that. But the defense looked good and the Broncos picked up another win, despite themselves. That's probably the real troubling part. In week one it was poor Special Teams play that kept the game close. This week it was turnovers. All those things need to get cleaned up, and quickly as the Broncos close in on an opening week date with the Baltimore Ravens.

Game Balls:
* Andre Caldwell. Caldwell is sometimes the forgotten man in the offense. Demaryius Thomas and Sanders are the stars, and Cody Latimer gets a lot of hype. All Caldwell does is perform. He did that Saturday, catching two passes for 61 yards and a touchdown on three targets.
* Ronnie Hillman. Is it just me, or does it seem like Hillman should be the second string/change of pace back? He had eight carries for 54 yards on Saturday night. That makes 120 yards on 16 carries in two games. Montee Ball, meanwhile, had four yards on four carries…
* Broncos defense. The Defense has been great for two games. On Saturday, they allowed only three points (the Texan touchdown was a pick-6). I love the tackling, pressure, and depth. The Broncos had five sacks Saturday. And the team has great depth — love what I saw from reserve linebackers Todd Davis and Shaquill Barrett.

Lingering Questions:
* Who kicks for the Broncos? Spencer Lanning only had two punts Saturday, but they looked better than what Colquitt offered. But I didn't see him kicking off, so is that really an improvement? As for McManus and Barth, no field goal chances, so no progress.
* Who returns kicks? Louks was returning Saturday, but there weren't many chances and we didn't see much. Bolden returned some punts and looked merely OK. Still a lot of Special Teams questions.
* Quarterback depth chart. Siemian looks good, and I suspect he'll be on the Practice Squad. Dysert didn't play Saturday, and I'm thinking he'll be looking for work. Then there's Brock Osweiler. He looked great in game one and had flashes of greatness in Saturday's game. He also threw a pick-six. That's the trouble with Brock, lack of consistency.
