Upcoming Releases — September

There are great times for movies, and there are terrible times for movies. September is the latter. There appear to be a few diamonds in the rough… but there's a whole lot of rough.

Friday, September 4:
The Transporter Refueled — About the best thing you could say about "The Transporter" franchise was it had Jason Statham. This re-boot doesn't have that. Happy Labor Day…

Friday, September 11:
The Perfect Guy — In honor of the date marking our nation's tragic loss, we have this upscale creepy thriller about a guy who has decided if he can't have the girl, no one will… Michael Ealy stars.

The Visit — This is about the worst visit anyone ever made to their grandparents house. On the bright side, this is kick-off weekend for the NFL, so the movie theaters might be irrelevant.

Friday, September 18:
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials — "The Maze Runner" is a set of popular YA books. I didn't really care for the first one, but this might be more interesting. Emphasis on "might."

Black Mass — Another possibly interesting film, this one featuring Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger. Features an all-star cast.

Captive — This might be the surprise of the month. It's got David Oyelowo and Kate Mara, and it looks incredible. It looks like a movie story of life, love, loss, and faith.

Everest — I think this is as close to a sure bet as we have in September. It's the story of a group of men who try to summit the mountain, and how the mountain bites back.

Friday, September 25:
Hotel Transylvania 2 — The first one was a reasonable animated hit around Halloween. This will probably be similar.

Before I Wake — A thriller about a terrifying child starring Kate Bosworth. That's right, getting close to Halloween!

The Intern — This is the latest dramedy from Nancy Myers. Looks like good roles for Anne Hathaway and Robert DeNiro. Might be a nice salve for an uneven month.

Wednesday, September 30:
The Walk — This one promises to have some incredible cinematic effects. It tells the true story of a man who walked between the World Trade Center towers via high wire, without a net. The story is also told in a fantastic documentary, "Man on Wire."
