2015 Broncos Season — Week One

The regular season is here. Someone send the Broncos' offense a memo.

Week One: Broncos 19, Baltimore Ravens 13
Season Record: 1-0 (1-0 Home)
Key Play: In the fourth quarter, trailing 13-9, Aqib Talib picked off a Joe Flacco pass intended for Steve Smith, Sr. and returned it 51 yards for a touchdown, giving Denver a 16-13 lead.

Recap: Herm Edwards once famously said, "You play to win the game." From that standpoint, Sunday was a success. By any other metric, it's reasonable to have some concerns about the way the Broncos are playing. There wasn't an offensive touchdown scored in the game. That is a great sign for the Broncos' defense and a poor sign for the Broncos' future. No one looked good on the offensive side of the ball, and that has to change. And the Broncos got beat up in the game, but now have to hit the road to battle Kansas City Chiefs team that looked sharp in a win on the road Sunday. That game is on Thursday night, meaning the Broncos have just three days to rest and make adjustments. Given that, it's reasonable to start to wonder how good the team can be this season, and to assume Kansas City and San Diego will make the gap between them smaller and smaller.

Game Balls:
* Aqib Talib. Talib had some great plays, but none was bigger than the interception return for a touchdown. That was the difference in the game.
* Brandon McManus. He answered some of the questions about his accuracy and improvement Sunday, going 4-for-4 in field goals, including two of more than 50 yards.
* Ronnie Hillman. It wasn't a great offensive game, but Hillman showed some spark in gaining 41 yards on 12 carries.

Lingering Questions:
* Peyton Manning. He hasn't looked good in a while. He struggled to end last season, which people chalked up to injury. But his accuracy wasn't great yesterday, either. It is officially time to be concerned.
* Injuries. A lot of Broncos got banged up, and it's a short week. That bears watching heading into a tough division game on Thursday.
* CJ Anderson. This one hurts. I believe in Anderson, but he struggled on Sunday and he's banged up. Part of that is that the blocking and let's hope that improves as we move forward.
