2015 Broncos Season — Week Two

Another week, another defensive touchdown bailing the Broncos out!

Week Two: Broncos 31, Kansas City Chiefs 24
Season Record: 2-0 (1-0 home)
Key Play: With the game tied at 24 and just 36 seconds left, the Chiefs handed the ball to Jamal Charles. On the carry, Broncos' linebacker Brandon Marshall punched the ball out, and it was scooped up by nickel corner Bradley Roby, who returned it 21 yards for the touchdown, sealing a win.

Recap: In the first half, for much of it, it was fair to wonder if the Peyton Manning era was over. The Broncos couldn't move the ball or get anything done. They were trailing 7-0, when Manning threw his second pick-six of the season, giving the Chiefs a 14-0 lead, at home, deep in the second quarter. Then the Broncos rallied. And thanks to getting five turnovers on defense, and finding a little rhythm on offense, the team moved to 2-0. Are all the problems solved, certainly not. But you play to win the game, and Gary Kubiak's squad is 2-0. There is plenty to like, and plenty that needs correction. But the Broncos got an important win over a division rival on short rest. Now they have 10 days to prep for a battle in Detroit. The Broncos got the win, and now they have time to get healthy and work on their flaws.

Game Balls:
* Emmanuel Sanders. Sanders continues to be Manning's favorite target in the clutch — having converted a bunch of third downs this season. He also caught two touchdowns in the win, proving he was a steal for his price last off season.
* Denver's Defense — Those guys never quit, harassing Alex Smith all night and forcing five turnovers, including two picks of Smith and two fumbles from Charles, one of the NFL's best. It was a banner night, including the game-winning score.
* Brandon McManus — We never questioned the leg, just the accuracy. But so far he's been a perfect 5-5 this season on field goals, including three of more than 50 yards. He could be a big weapon this season.

Lingering Concerns:
* CJ Anderson. He hasn't looked good in two games. Granted, the Ravens and Chiefs were stout against the run. But, still, he needs to get it going. The Broncos need a good running game to win this season.
* Peyton Manning. Yes, he had 256 yards and three touchdowns. But his completion percentage wasn't great and he threw an other costly interception, as well as a few others that could have been picked. He needs to find a balance and round into form.
