2015 Broncos Season — Week 10

It's going to be a long second half.

Week 10: Kansas City Chiefs 29, Broncos 13
Season Record: 7-2 (3-1 home)
Key Play: Trailing 10-0 in the first quarter, Manning and the Broncos were starting to get a drive together. On second at 10 at the 50 yard line, he was intercepted by Sean Smith, capping the only semi-successful drive of the game for the Broncos with Manning at the helm.

Recap: It would be hard to have a worse performance than Sunday's game. Through the first seven games of the season, the Broncos hadn't allowed any opponent points in the first quarter. Against the Colts they allowed seven. Yesterday, they allowed 10. But it's not all the fault of the defense. Manning threw two first quarter interceptions, three in the first half, and four through two and a half quarters before he was pulled. Sure, on paper it looks like the Broncos put up a couple scores in the second half to be competitive. But that's a fraud. Brock Osweiler didn't look great either, and the team only scored when the Chiefs were up 29-0 and had already won the game. It was a poor game in all three phases, and I don't know what to make of the Broncos the rest of the way. After a great game against the Packers, the team has lost two very winnable games and is about to hit the meat of the schedule (dates with the Patriots, Bengals and Steelers remain) while spiraling out of control. And now word comes out that Manning has a major injury in his foot and might be done. So, too, might the Broncos. I'm not legitimately concerned about getting to 10 wins and winning the division. Which is inconceivable after they started 7-0. Now this team looks lost on offense and defense. This is not a good time to fall apart. The Broncos travel to battle the suddenly resurgent Bears on Sunday, then they host the Patriots Thanksgiving weekend. If they lose those two games, their once giant lead in the AFC West could crumble.

Game Balls:
* Brock Ostweiler. Was he good? No. But he was better than Manning and provided a little spark. He also threw an interception. That's Brock in a nutshell.
* Demaryius Thomas. In what's been a frustrating and lost season, DT grabbed seven balls for 71 yards and kept fighting, even in a lost cause.

Lingering Questions:
* Running Game. Running game, running game, wherefore art thou? After doing well agains the Packers, Hillman and Anderson have all but disappeared.
* Peyton Manning. Manning has nine TD passes and 17 interceptions so far this season. That's not even average, its significantly below average. Now they're saying he's injured. It feels like a lost season in what is likely his last go-around.
* Defense. Once the pride of the team, the defense has fallen apart the last two weeks and they've behaved poorly. Aqib Talib was suspended on Sunday, and it looks like TJ Ward will get a game next week for his antics. This needs to end.
